Post cut off!! Help!
-
Why is my post getting cut off? Is this a theme issue? You have to press the comments button to see the whole post! Making me crazy!
Also, can I really not change font colors unless I pay for CSS?
Thanks so much.

It’s the theme you have chosen. Inuit only shows excerpts on the main page by default.
What you can do, is to open the post for edit, switch to the HTML tab, copy everything in that window and then scroll down to the “excerpt” module and paste it in there and then save the changes. The will force the theme to take the entire post as the excerpt. I just tried this on a test blog and it seems to work fine.

Yes, the excerpt feature functions in this new theme, but not quite the same way as it does in older themes.
In the older themes (where it works), one can add photos formatted as you like. In Inuit, one can use only the “thumbnail” feature to have a picture in the excerpt. Only the one picture. The thumbnail picture does not appear in the category or archive pages either.
Here are the themes where custom excerpts work:

The Excerpt in Inuit is almost useless: no html. So no images, no links, etc., not even paragraph breaks.

I noticed the lack of formatting, but I like the simplicity of the excerpt feature in Inuit. But I see it would be good to have more options for the creative and adventurous. I just really do not like the heavy black side bar, and wish there was an open for a white sidebar with the same text font.

Inuit is a great theme, but the only putting extracts onto the main page is a show-stopper for me.
If anybody comes up with a workaround that allows me to do REAL, full blog posts on the main page of my blog, I’d sure be grateful.

You can do it with the “excerpt” module, but as you can see from this thread, none of the formatting or images will end up in the posts on the main page.
I agree that it would be nice if there was an option to show full posts on the main page, and I hope the theme team will consider adding that functionality.
You can try leaving that request in the announcement and see what they say.

As for the “heavy black side bar”, you can at least go to Appearance > Theme Settings and select another color.

@Panos
In the Inuit Types theme the only color combinations we can select from result in widget backgrounds that are indeed dark. I believe this is so that when a black background is chosen they blend into it. The default color combination choice is white background for posts, pages, etc. with widgets that have a black background. There is no color combination that provides a white background in widgets. The other color combination choices produce white posts and pages, etc.with red/black, white/blue/black, white/green/black, white/purple/black and dark/black background widgets. -
@TT: I think I understand the logic you explain here. I now see I am not clear when I say I wish for a white sidebar. The sidebar is white already, it’s the widgets that have the black background as you say. Now I wish for widgets that didn’t have the white background! But it sounds like it is probably not possible due to the logic you explain here.
If there were anyway to reverse the black background/white type I would love to hear it, but I think this may be beyond our control. Thanks…

@sandrapawula
I do understand what you are saying. The black background in the widgets is not what you want. You want a white background in widgets choice and it does not exist.I believe that if you want to purchase a CSS editing upgrade, which must be renewed annually, and do the work yourself then you could make the change you want to see. To prove to yourself whether or not this is true you could use the preview function. > Dashboard > Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

Thanks TT, you got it. Thanks to a kind person who gave me the code, I was able to try this out on the trial CSS basis you mention. As he pointed out, without the contrast, it looks quite flat. It would need perking up in one way or the other and that would require CSS far beyond me. But it was fun to give it a try. With some fine-tuning, the black/white scheme is growing on me. I would like to see a theme like this with more white space and gave my input to the WP Theme Team.

@crossfitfortmeade
You are CSS editing the Contempt Theme by by Vault9. Whatever you have done is causing this as it’s not normal theme behavior for Contempt. Please post to the CSS customization forum to get help https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization -
