http://robinholland.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/shameless-plug/Please let me know how I can fix the date (I tried edit unsuccessfully
)–or if WordPress has to do it, thanks in advance.

If you blog is new then perhaps you forgot to change the timzone setting to reflect your own rather than UTC time. > Settings > General
You can the datestamp on posts. I know you are not scheduling a post but pictures are wirth a thoudand words, so see here for images (see the second one) that indicate where to do that > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/schedule-a-post/

Thanks so much for addressing my question.
But my blog isn’t new–I started it 12/10 and I’ve never had this problem before.
I looked at the links and there’s definitely a possibility that I might be dense, but I don’t think they’re relevant.
I published my latest post yesterday, Sunday, 3/25 around 2:00 pm ET, but when the post was published the date under the headline was Friday’s, which was 3/23.
Any help changing correcting the date is greatly appreciated

Have you tried editing the post and changing the date in the publish module and then clicking “update”? http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/
