post editing and management

dear wordpress: please don’t ever get rid of the old interface. the new-ish one is too limiting, confusing, and requires way too much scrolling toggling between visual and html. do you think i don’t want to see part of the interface until i am on it after i had to scroll up to the page top to even expose it? and saving a draft is done … how? please, please, please. this ‘white space is beautiful’ ethos makes things more unusable. usability minus points for the redesign.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you referring to the interface that you see when you login at https://wordpress.com/?
That’s called the WordPress.com Calypso dashboard and is the standard. Is there anything that you specifically find hard to use on the Calypso dashboard? Let us know and we can probably help.
Also, note that you can use the classic WordPress dashboard at https://lisaolisa.wordpress.com/wp-admin
Does this help? Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi there
It’s possible to switch back to an older interface that you may prefer. It’s called the Dashboard. Here is more information about it: Dashboard
Try browsing to http://lisaolisa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php – this should take you to an older admin interface.

The new dashboard I can take or leave. I spend as little time there as possible. I live in the old dashboard. The place I am most unhappy is the ‘edit post’ UI in the new design that you get when you Edit a post via the published/drafted post itself. The old design, which can be accessed via the classic dashboard, has way better controls. saving a draft in the new UI is especially elusive.

Hi again
Definitely use the interface you’re most comfortable with! It sounds like the classic Dashboard suits your workflow better.
I think it’s great that we can choose the editor that works best for us. That way, we can focus on writing more great content.

I agree. i just don’t want them to take away the ‘old way’ of doing things because there is a new way. it’s usually retired when something gets a new look/way.

Hi again
I’m glad you have an option that works for you! Do you need any further help with post editing and management?

change from published to draft … how? -
Hi there
Ok, so you’d like to change your post status from “Published” to “Draft”?
Classic editor
If you’re editing your post in the “classic” post editor, you should see a panel to the right with the title “Publish”. You should see a dropdown in that panel under “Status: <Something>”.
Here is an example: https://imgur.com/a/29oKO
To change the post status from “Published” to “Draft”, follow these steps:
- Click on the dropdown and select “Draft” from the dropdown list
- Click on “OK” to the right of the dropdown
- Click on “Update” just below the “Publish” panel to save the change to the post status
Once you’re done with your edits to your post and you’re ready to publish it, click on the “Publish” button.
The newer post editor
If you’re editing your post in the newer post editor, the process is similar. To begin with, take a look at this support page titled “Post and Page Screen”.
In this post editor, look for an item on the right titled “Status”. When you click on the little arrow to the right of “Status”, it will open a panel that looks like this: https://imgur.com/txbdD9z
If you click on the button titled “Revert to draft”, this should change your post status to a draft post. You should see the “Update” button at the top of the menu column change to “Publish”.
This will mean that the post status has changed to a draft. When you are ready to publish, click on that “Publish” button.

I just noticed that I forgot to give you the link to the “Post and Page Screen” support page. Here it is: https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/post-and-page-screen/#post-screen
