Post Editing Issue
-
Hi, I recently switched themes from Imbalance 2 to rebalance and now I am unable to edit posts. The closest I can get is by going into WP Admin and selecting posts. As soon as I click on one, using any option, edit, quick edit, copy etc the page changes showing the html screen but displays as a published, uneditable blog post.
Have you come across such an issue and is there a solution?
Thanks, Joe.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Joe, I’ve not seen that. I can’t seem to duplicate it on your site, either. Can you let us know what browser you’re using?
Also, please get a screenshot and upload it to your media library so we can see what you’re seeing. I’m assuming you’re being taken to the public view of the post or page — is that right?
-
Yes I get a public view, but of the html page. I’ve attached screenshots of the WP Admin posts page, and the screen view I get when trying to edit something.
I use Macs, a desktop at home but predominantly a MacBook laptop in my studio. I’ve always kept up to date with the latest Apple software version, currently Mojave 10.14.6 The browser is the default Safari as supplied with the software.
The issue started before I switched to rebalance so I swapped in the hope that it may sort it out the issue.

That’s only an option for a new post, it is not an option when trying to edit an existing draft.
-
Can you please take a screenshot of your whole dashboard so I can better understand what’s happening?
-
Hi, the first screen shot is what I’m presented with when I select ‘write’ whilst logged-in to my WP site. The default editing mode is Visual. The second screenshot is what I get from WP Admin/posts.
Each time I try to edit an existing post I think a bit of coding runs and then I’m presented with the uneducable screen. It happens to quickly for me to work out what is going on.

Hi Joe –
Does this link work to edit the post?
https://showandtellmagazine.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8252&action=edit
When I look at the WP-Admin, which is the classic editor, I am able to select Posts. From the post list I can hover on the title and click on the edit link below. It brings up the visual editor in WP-Admin right away. There isn’t any weird stuff going on that I can see.
From the same interface I can add a new post from https://showandtellmagazine.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
Do those work for you?
Please disable any browser extensions that you might be using as well. Let’s see if that makes a difference.
-
No sorry, it flicks straight over to an html filled published post. New posts are fine as long as I complete them in one session, if I need to save as a draft which happens regularly, then I get this issue.
The same thing happens both on my mac and laptop, both running Safari.
-
Which version of Safari? Is there an update available?
I’m curious if the same behavior happens in Chrome of Firefox as well.
-
I think its the latest version of Safari Version 13.0.1 (14608.2.11.1.11). I don’t have Firefox installed nor Google Chrome.
-
I’m not noticing this in Safari 13.0.1 myself.
Please try with all Safari extensions switched off: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203051
If that doesn’t work, would you please install Firefox to see if there’s any problem there for you? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

There were no Safari extensions. I’ve installed Firefox and successfully edited and published the draft post.
Thanks for the option, but does that mean I have to use Firefox each time I want to edit a post or do think there is some issue with Safari that can be resolved? Thanks, Joe.
-
No, you should still be able to use Safari. Like I mentioned, I’m not seeing the quoted issue in Safari 13.0.1 myself.
What version of macOS are you on?

By any chance, at any point did you paste the raw code of the post into the Visual editor?
-
Hi Macmanx, no what I like about WordPress is the ability to just drag and drop images, and copy and paste the text. I do use the html screen if there are imbedded tables or other font/layout restrictions but that is all.
I edited the original draft in Firefox successfully, (just added the venue address at the bottom of the post), and subsequently added a new post in Safari. The issue only arises if I have saved a draft and need to edit it later.

What I was unsure of was whether it is a software anomaly or a theme issue. I really appreciate so many of you spending so much time looking into this. Do you know who I could speak to regarding the theme itself? For instance my original header elements have now relocated to the footer area.
Kind regards, Joe.

Hi Joe,
What I was unsure of was whether it is a software anomaly or a theme issue.
It seems to be some local issue as neither of us can actually reproduce it.
You mentioned that this happens when you add a post and try to edit the draft later on. I have added a test post into your site – you can find it in your drafts.
Are you able to edit this post or does the HTML code opens up again?
Do you know who I could speak to regarding the theme itself?
If this was a theme issue we would report it to the developers, however, it does not look like it’s related to your theme – you can switch themes temporarily to test it.
