Post Editing Issues

    Hello,

I have been having problems accessing the post editor feature since yesterday (6/3). Each time I try, the feature fails to connect; it shows a blank page. Is this a site-wide issue?

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

It’s still happening and I’m frustrated and perplexed as to why. No one has responded, so I’m guessing it must be my browser settings, although I hadn’t altered them, nor can I see anything wrong.

There’s so much happening behind the scenes when you load wordpress into a browser these days that things often get “stuck”. Clearing cache or even trying a different browser is worth considering.

Thanks for the input, but after all attempts, it is still unresolved. Is this the infamous “white-screen-of-death” scenario I hear tell about? Are there any staff members who might be able to enlighten me?

Once again, a description of the issue I’m encountering:
When attempting to enter the editor feature for any given post (through any path available), after clicking “edit”, the wordpress logo loads momentarily, disappears, and then the edit screen frame[s] page tries to load but fails. I’m left with a blank screen, aside from the help link (blue-circled question mark) in the far bottom right-hand corner. It tries to connect but fails. Can any official staff member talk me through possible fixes? I’ve tried just about everything, thus far.

  • Hi there,

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

What you’re describing happens when the browser isn’t loading all the code our site needs to work, and in 99% of cases, clearing the browser cache fixes that.

    https://wordpress.com/en/support/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

If you’re using any browser add-ons, especially ad-blockers or privacy/anti-tracking add-ons, temporarily disable those and see if that helps. Also unplug your router/modem temporarily before restarting it, to clear it’s local connection cache.

If none of that makes any difference, can you check using a different browser, or if possible, using a different internet connection or even computer – it happens less often, but issues with the computer’s DNS cache, or even issues at your ISP could also potentially cause this.

But this is not the infamous White Screen of Death – that’s an issue that affects the open source version of WordPress, where a corrupt file, or a plugin/theme conflict so completely breaks a site that even the error pages built into WordPress won’t load. If your site was having a WSOD error, thousands of WordPress.com sites would be affected, and our systems team would have been all hands on deck to fix it – WordPress.com sites share their core files with each other, so if something breaks, it affects the entire network, not just one site :)
