Post format panel in classic editor
-
The post format panel in the classic editor has disappeared. How on earth can I enable it and get it back? I am using a child theme of apostrophe 2, but the problem occurs with other themes as well. There is much info on the web about using post formats, but nothing on how to make the post format choices appear.

Hi there, please let us know the address of the site you need help with so we can take a look and what theme you are using.
-
Thanks for your help with this matter.
The site is OberlinChaos.com, which uses an Apostrophe 2 Child theme. This problem occurs with all themes.

Hi again, your above site at oberlinchaos.com is using the open source WP software.
I understand that you’ve downloaded the Apostrophe2 theme from our theme Showcase for your WP site, but I also note that Apostrophe2 doesn’t support post formats. https://wordpress.com/theme/apostrophe-2 Have a look at the bottom of the page for the feature tags.
Since this is a WPcom theme, I’ve also flagged this thread for Staff attention.

Not every theme is going to support different post formats. That’s unique to each theme. As mentioned, it is not something built in to Apostrophe2.
-
YES IT IS built in. It was there two weeks ago in Oberlinchaos.com, and is currently operational in mwd2.oberlinchaos.com, which also uses an Apostrophe 2 theme.
-
Both are self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Perhaps you’ve used a plugin to extend post formats, or modified the theme?
-
Note that there is a difference between the Apostrophe theme (retired here at WordPress.com) and Apostrophe 2. Perhaps your second listed site uses Apostrophe?
This link lists all the themes that support post formats. -
FWIW- I’d be cautious about relying on that list, as the theme I’m using on gammagirl, Rebalance, supports post-formats and isn’t listed there.
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/post-formats according to the feature filter there are currently 148 themes that support post formats and it should be possible to filter a site by “type” if post formats have been used.
And, there you go https://apostrophe2demo.wordpress.com/type/image/
*And also FWIW Apostrophe2 doesn’t appear in the theme showcase filter list nor does the post formats module appear in either the WP Admin Post Editor or the Calypso Classic Post Editor.
