Post, Format, Preformatted

Hi. I am trying to find info on what Preformatted means, found under the Format tab in Pages. Its part of the editing selections where you enter text. Can someone tell me what this does? I assume it used if you are pasting in something. But there is also the paste from Word option as well. Would love some help! Thanks

I believe Preformatted just wraps the text in pre /pre tags, which preserves spaces and linebreaks. It’s sometimes used for code samples – but it’s probably infrequently used by most bloggers.

You can read more about the preformat tag and what it does here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_pre.asp .

Thank you! Then I do have an additional question on formatting. Can I use the Paste from Word to bring in a table I have created that has text in it, a title and bullet points with a few words after each? Or is that only for text? If not, can I do it by creating a jpeg of it and bringing it in as an image? Thanks.

Give it a try. You might have to flip over into the HTML tab after inserting it via the paste from Word icon to do a little formatting of the table. I’ve noticed that the tables sometimes come in with a background color where the table in Word didn’t have it.
One thing you might want to check out, if you are using Windows, is the Windows Live Writer blog editor, which installs on your computer. It has a table function built right into it, and when you are happy with things, it will actually upload the post directly to your blog for you. No need to copy and paste. I wish they had a mac version of it.

Sadly, I know of no blog editors for mac that have a table function.

Well that is pretty cool. Thank you. I will give it a try. I have never used HTML so hopefully that won’t be necessary!

Yeah, Windows Live Writer is the best thing Microsoft has ever done in my opinion, and it is incredibly solid and creates clean, compliant code. I seriously wish there was a version for Mac. Not likely to happen though.
