Post formatting

    Dear WordPress team,

    Why does the formatting of a post disappear when I save it as a draft and come back the next day? I sometimes work on longer pieces that have dialogue and paragraph separations. If I don’t finish it in one go and come back to edit it later, the text shows up in the editor as one big block of type. I have to go back and reinsert all the breaks each time I edit. This has happened more times than I can count and it’s very frustrating.

    Hi Lillis!

    Thanks for the report! We’ve had a few users mention this. I’m trying to track down the exact steps so I can replicate it on my side. I’ve tried the following:

    1. Create a new post. Insert text including various paragraphs.

    2. Save post as a draft.

    3. Log out of WordPress.com.

    4. Log back in

    5. Open draft.

    The paragraph breaks seem to stay in place for me. Is this similar to the steps you’re following that result in the error?

    Hi Jeremey,

    Thanks for looking into the problem. The steps you listed are similar except I don’t usually log out. Often I go on to work on other posts on the site or other editing tasks like setting feature pictures on other posts. When I need a break, I just close the tab without logging out and then open the window again from my favorites. I’ve stayed logged in though.

    The formatting strangeness doesn’t happen consistently either. MOST of the time it disappears, but occasionally it doesn’t. Earlier today I went to edit a very old post and the formatting was fine. However, I just tested it again right now and it happened. I found a typo in my most recent post after reading it from the main site so I went to go edit the post and found again that it was all one big block of text. I decided not to bother with the typo and just closed the editing window.

    Hi Lillis,

    Thanks for the report. I’ve been experiencing the intermittent issue as well, which is frustrating. I’ll report back to our developers, and let you know when this issue is resolved!
