Post Image No Longer Included With Cross Post to Tumblr

For more than a decade I have been letting WP.com cross post from my blog to my Tumblr account. During this time the cross post has always included the primary image from the blog post. Images stopped being included with the cross post on July 3rd. Was this a deliberate change on the part of WP.com?
Posts to Tumblr without an image are not very likely to be viewed and if that is the way it is going to be going forward I will likely just turn off cross posting as the value of it has been diminished.

Hi there! We tested the cross-posting option on Tumblr, and it worked as expected when a featured image was assigned to that post, but it didn’t work when the image was embedded into the post.
We’ll review this further and keep you updated on this matter here.

Good to hear. Unfortunately the theme I use does not support featured images… it just puts them at the top of the page unanchored to anything… so that is not an option for me.

Hey there! I checked your site tagn.wordpress.com and noticed you have Twenty Twelve theme active. This enables you to have featured images. I have shared a video of how to do so via email. Please check your inbox.

My problem was not that I do not know how to set a featured image, but that with my theme the featured image doesn’t have a place to go, so just sits up at the top of the page between the banner and the post in a not particularly attractive way, neither part of the blog nor part of the post. That was what is what I meant above.

This is a design decision made by the themes developers of Twenty Twelve theme. Since it is a many many years old design, I encourage you to try out our newer themes. You can explore themes where the Featured Image is placed differently and has an attractive design too. Here is a link to our theme collection.
