Post is publishing instead of scheduling

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have been trying to schedule a post that I want to appear in a few days’ time. The first time I selected the date and time and clicked schedule, the post published. I assumed it was user error, that I had maybe accidentally clicked incorrectly, so quickly deleted the post and started again. However, despite being very vigilant when setting it up to schedule again, the same post automatically published. I even watched the button change from schedule to publish when it was in the “pressed” mode. I again deleted the post (as it would be out of chronological order with posts I have scheduled previously) and have now just saved that post as a draft until I can feel assured that I have either figured out what I am doing wrong or that any issue with WP is resolved.

    Has anyone else experienced this problem today? Just me? Is there a way I can be absolutely sure it is not going to just automatically publish if I try to schedule it again?

    Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

    Thank you very much, timethief. I appreciate your help with that. This is only the second time I have ever had cause to post in the support forums so I am not clued up on how to best make it work. Thank you.

    I was in the process of scheduling a post for next week at this very moment. I’ve just tried it in the “new” dashboard and you’re right !! Another reason to use the “old” dashboard.

    We have two user interfaces now and two editors. I use only the classic editor, and not the new so-called “improved” editor.

    The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    * You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL

    You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it.

    On the dashboard of your own blog at
    Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

    *http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    To create posts in the classic editor for you that link is:

    http://pictinpa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

    On the dashboard of your own blog at
    Dashboard > Posts > All Posts one can hover over any post title and click the Edit link. and proceed with editing.

    *http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

    To edit posts in the classic editor go to

    http://pictinpa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

    Hope this helps and best wishes with your blog.

    @themagicrobot
    Thanks for checking. I’m leaving the modlook tag up for Staff.

    Thank you very much indeed for that detailed explanation, timethief. I will use that workaround.

    I had been using the old editor for some time after the new version launched but then graduated to the new version and would not have remembered now how to get the old version back up so thank you very much for all those instructions.

    @papict
    I’m a curmudgeonly long time user and I use only the classic editor.
    You’re welcome. :)

  • Our apologies for the hassle, this issue should be fixed now. You may need to reload the page and/or clear your browser cache.

    Thank you, rootjosh. It was annoying but not the end of the world. I am glad it is fixed now. I appreciate it.

    Thanks
