Post migration – Can I redirect old post URLs to new wp.com URLs?
-
Hi I’ve just migrated my existing site from a self-hosted Drupal install into a WordPress.com hosted account on wordpress.com.
I’ve added my own domain with Premium.
Very happy with the result. One thing I can’t figure out is whether I can redirect old URLs to their new resulting wp.com equivalents.
Example – The old URL pattern:
http://my-perso-website.com/blog/my-blog-post-150is now:
http://my-perso-website.com/2013/11/28/my-blog-post-150I gather that adding 301 redirects to the .htaccess files on the old hosting would have no effect, since my domain DNS is now correctly redirecting to ns1.wordpress.com / ns2.wordpress.com, and thus the .htacess would never get picked up.
How can I ensure that people who click on existing links to my old site posts elsewhere on the web get correctly redirected to the new paths?
Is there a way to create aliases? or something to this effect?
I have no more than 20 posts, so a manual option is ok..
Thanks in advance.

Hi Claude,
There really isn’t an easy way to redirect all of your Drupal slugs to the WordPress.com counterparts. WordPress.com already does a form of slug matching and tries to find the corresponding WordPress.com post for a given URL. So, if the slug is close enough, it will automatically redirect to the WordPress.com counterpart without you having to do anything. However, this isn’t foolproof so it won’t work 100% of the time.
