post not publishing
-
Hi,
I’m new to wordpress and…my posts won’t publish. Appreciate any guidance and help!
I was able to publish the first post – but after I tried to edit it and label the post with an earlier date than the day I actually wrote the post on..no posts are showing on my wordpress blog (or have ever shown since).
HOWever, I have connected the blog to tumblr – and it is posting over there. But nothing shows on mywordpress blog at http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/
1) I have tried to go into settings/writing and tick ‘WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically’ and then move the post back to a draft and then republish it as instructed.
2) I have repeatedly cleared cookies as instructed…but still my posts don’t show on my blog at http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/
Thanks in advance for your help!

If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)
I recommend:
Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/ -
Hi,
Unfortunately, in the publishing module there is status, visibility, published and publicise – but no revisions section.
However, I don’t think the issue is an unpublished revision because it clearly is published somehow – we know this because the post shows up on my tumblr page which has been connected through the ‘pubilicise’ option in the publishing section. It also is listed as published in the posts directory (http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php).
But it does not show on my wordpress site’s blog (which is now titled ‘For Writers’ at http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/).
The post was originally created on the dashboard of my blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New.
Thanks in advance again for your help.
Best,

You didn’t perchance schedule those posts to go up at a later time did you? That has sometimes caused problems with the posts.

No, the post says it was published on May 8, 2014.
I was able to publish this post initially – but after I tried to change the date on the post to an earlier date (than the day I actually wrote the post on)..no posts have shown on my wordpress blog since (even though I then reverted it to the current date at the time).
Since my posts are publishing on tumblr, I think they must somehow be suppressed at my wordpress site…
Thanks again in advance,

On your blog http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/ I see 10 pages that have been published, 10 drafts, and 4 in the trash. However, I only see one published post and two in the trash.
You will need to create new posts, or move existing ones from the Trash, if you wish to publish new ones.
If you think you are missing posts, or cannot publish existing ones, could you please tell me the titles so I can take a further look?

Yes, that is all correct. That’s what I see too when I am looking inside the dashboard/directories. I can also create another post and preview it with the preview function in the publishing section.
The problem is that if I look at my actual site – whether logged in or not – the blog post is not publishing. If you simply go to the url and look at http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/ ….I cannot see any post. it just shows ‘For Writers’ and white space…
When I go to my tumblr site http://benstarlingauthor.tumblr.com/, however, I can see the posts.
If you go to http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/ without logging in to wordpress, do you see any post?
Thanks again in advance,
Ben -
First of all, http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/ is a page, not a post. That may be what you’re trying to create, but I wanted to make sure you understand the differences as that could be part of the confusion.
A page is content that is intended to be static and undated, and usually is what you have in a menu. Your current pages all seem to be correct in that regard. A post is dated content and is usually understood best in the context of a blog “post”.
At any rate, the page http://benhstarling.wordpress.com/for-writers/ has been published, but there is no content within it. You can see that in the editor view, https://benhstarling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8&action=edit
I see one “post” on Tumblr that links to your single post on WordPress.com.
If you are trying to publish your WordPress posts to Tumblr, try using posts, not pages.
Here’s a bit more explanation:

By Jove, you’ve done it!
Under Settings>Readings, I needed to set the For Writers page as my posts page! Now done and very pleased with the outcome.
Sincere thanks to all for your patience and your speedy answers!

Aha! I didn’t realize that was what you were wanting to do, but I’m glad you were able to figure it out. :)
If you need any further help with this, please let me know.
