Post on Different Pages

    I have a post that I made sticky on my home page because I wanted it to be at the top–a sort-of means for explaining the basis of the blog. But then I decided it would go better on the “About” page of my blog.

    Q. Is there a method for posting on other pages of the blog?
    Q. Is there a method for moving posts from the main page to another page of the blog?

    I’ve looked in the dashboard for either of these possibilities and haven’t been able to find out what I can do.

    While I’m at it, can someone help me figure out the use of pages? If you can only post on the home page, what’s the point of having other pages? What am I missing?

    I might point out that I’m in native WP–on their servers–so I have all of their standard widgets and can’t add others…

    1. Posts are organized in wordpress using categories. You can use the categories widget, or you can even put categories into your top navigation using a custom menu.

    2. All posts will show on the site main posts page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main page. You can create a static front page for your site and then not create a normal posting page and then put the categories into the top navigation and people can then click on the category links in the navigation to get only the posts in that category.

    Pages are static and sit outside of the blog structure and are generally used for stuff that seldom, if ever, changes such as an about page. See here for the differences between posts and pages.

    Did I mention how cool you are? I really, really appreciate all the help you’ve been able to give me. I’m very grateful.

    I’ll see what I can do with this information and work it. It’s good to know how to do some of these “extra” things so I can better administer the website. It’s REALLY good to understand a bit better how the whole content management system works.
