You need to understand how dynamic category pages work. They automatically update but static pages do not.
You start by assigning the minimal amount of relevant categories to each post that actually describe the content in the post.
Selective assignment of relevant categories and tags to your posts can attract more views. (Categories and tags can be assigned only to posts, not to pages.)
All support docs are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/
Search for categories
https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=categories+
Results https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/Search for tags
https://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=tags
Results https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/tags/See also: https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/
The combined total of categories and tags on any post must not exceed 15 or it will not display on Categories and Tags pages and in the WordPress.COM Reader. After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there and in the Reader. Also, note that posts do not display in the Reader forever. Posts only display in the WordPress.COM Reader for 60 days.
re: custom menu
This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) Or a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.By default the front page of a blog displays all published posts in reverse chronological order with the most recently published post on top. When we publish a post on WordPress software the software automatically creates the same entry in the Archives, and on the dynamic (automatically updating) Categories and Tags pages in accord with the Categories and Tags we assign to that post.
So when we create custom menu and add the dynamic (automatically updating) category pages to that custom menu we create the appearance (not the reality) of posting to more than one page.
You need to be aware that:
1. There are differences between posts and pages described here
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/2. There are differences between static pages we bloggers create https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ that will not automatically update, and dynamic category pages created by the software when you publish a post which will automatically update https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/.
3. We organize posts by category assignment prior to publication. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/ and when we publish posts the dynamic category pages they automatically display on are determined by the categories we assign to them.
So the process you need to use is:
a. Assign Categories to your Posts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories
b. Create a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#1-create-a-custom-menu
c. Add only the dynamic category page links into the custom menu that you want to appear in that menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-category-pages and arrange them as you wish them to appear https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menus
d. Create pages and sub-pages for static content, not for posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
e. Add any custom links and other items like static pages and sub-pages into your custom menu
https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-custom-links https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-pages
and arrange them as you wish them to appear https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusPlease see https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/

Beautifully written :)

Unfortunately, I failed to understand. Once before in wp there was a possibility that when writing posts you mark whether you want to be the news on the front page or not.
If you can help, I will gladly let you assign admin.

That sounds like something that might be built into a specific theme you’re using on one of your other sites – not something that happens on every WordPress site :)
By default, WordPress will list all of your posts on your posts page.
If you’d like to separate out some posts onto their own page, you can use Categories and Tags in the editor to give the post a category like “News”.
Then you can add that category to your menu from My Site > Menus.
To prevent specific posts from displaying on your home page, you would need to use could use a Static Front page.
That page can either be something besides posts, or you can use the Display Posts Shortcode to list posts from a specific category or categories.

What if I didn’t like the 4 recent posts portion of the home page and wanted it to be removed? I was able to use a different template in other themes to get the home page entirely barebones but in your theme I can’t figure out if it’s possible? Is it or no matter what it will always show the recent posts at the bottom? I thought it would be a footer widget or something but no.

Looks like I’m wrong, I thought I had gotten it off other themes but maybe it’s deep in the theme code:

Hey @jjzolper
That forum thread you’ve linked to is for a different theme (Lectura Lite, not available here on WordPress.com) and for a self hosted WordPress site, where you’d manipulate the theme code directly :)
Your theme, Hemingway Rewritten does not have a different template to hide the posts they way you’ve described. You could try setting a Static Front Page, and then either add the text you’d like to see on your home page, or leave it blank.
If that doesn’t sound like what you have in mind, can you send a link to an example I can look at? I may be able to help you look for a different theme that will fit your needs a little better.

Hey staff-loquaciousloon
Yeah I realized I made yet another dumb mistake. That’s what happens when you go too quickly sometimes haha.
Yeah that’s what I was trying but it still came up.
I ended up scouting around and I actually found a different theme I think looked better for me and actually didn’t have the issue so I’m going to stick with that for now. I do appreciate the help though! I’ll make sure to stop posting on this other person’s thread! Just thought it might be relevant is all but doesn’t seem like I was right about that either ha. That makes me 0-3 haha. Best!
