Post Pages what's the difference? how do I differentiate?

hi, I’m new to this – my own blog, and I am trying to figure out what the differences are between “Pages” and “Posts”. I have my “Welcome” page showing up under posts and then a discussion I wanted to start is showing up before the welcome page – I want the welcome page to be static on its own – nothing to do with posts … how do I order post topic discussions? Is this too confusing? help please?

Posts and Pages are completely different and not understanding that and that here is no automatic way to transfer content between the two is what has thrown you off.
You will need to create two static pages. You will need to copy and paste the content you currently have in a post into a static page landing page called “Welcome” or whatever you choose.
Then you will need to create a static page for your post to appear on called “Blog” or whatever you choose. After you do that you will designate the pages accordingly here > Settings > Reading

thank you – I saw that post and have been trying to create two static pages – I got one but can’t figure how to do the other – what’s the “parent page” thing? I want the pages (and the posts) to appear in a certain order – I cannot get the pages in the order I want.

You can do that in the Page attributes box.
I want the posts to appear in a certain order. That’s not possible. You have two choices. (1) The conventional blog display is always reverse chronological order with the most recent post on top. Blog readers come to read fresh content and don’t appreciate having to page through zillions of pages to find it. (2) The other alternative is a book-like structure.

OH NO! I thought I had the pages/post thing sorted out and deleted my pages !! now there’s nothing – that’s about 2 weeks of work -please help me get it all back!!!!! HELP!

ok – done – I’ve figured out how to order my ‘pages’ – question is how can I have my first post for discussion NOT show up in my “about” parent page? Can I have it in a place all on it’s own? Is this the static page thing?
