post password protection recently broken?

All our previous password protected posts worked fine, but the one we uploaded last night *says* protected but show up without entering a password… even if I log out of wordpress. Here is the post: http://starquiltersmembersonly.wordpress.com/2014/09/09/star-quilters-meeting-september-8-2014/

Hi there,
I verified that your password protection is still working. Here’s what I see when I try to visit the post you mentioned: https://cloudup.com/cgCQf_Xy_Dk
When you visit a password protected post and enter the password, that password is saved as a cookie in your browser. If you visit the page again, your browser will remember the password for you. (Logging out of your WordPress.com account won’t change that.) To clear that password, you can clear the WordPress.com cookies in your browser.

This is no help. I understand about the cookies. I didn’t enter a password.
The author emailed me that that her protection didn’t work. Step 1: I tried to view the post and it just came up, although the title says protected. Step 2: I logged out and viewed it again; showed up. Step 3: logged in & edited the post to see what she did “wrong”, but it looked fine to me.

I have another idea. I believed that each post’s password was for it only. We have used the same password for several recent posts, but I thought you had to enter a password once for each protected post. Is it possible the presence of that particular password for a *different* post is letting my author & myself see the post automatically?

I’m not sure why your post is appearing for you without entering the password — entering a password on another post shouldn’t affect this one, and I’m not able to see the post without entering a password there.
Can you please try clearing your browser’s cookies and see if the post still shows up before you enter a password? That will help me investigate this for you.

most interesting.
(1) I deleted the cookies
(2) i viewed the Sept 8 post.. properly protected
(3) w/o entering the password, I returned to the home page and picked a Financial report (with the same password),
(4) entered the password & viewed the finance report
(5) returned to home page & picked the Sept 8 post… Bamm. Up it comes w/o entering the password. -
Hm, that is interesting. Thanks for checking that and providing those clear steps — I now see what you mean, and I’ve reported that to our team to investigate why that’s happening. In the meantime, I’d recommend using a different password for each post or page you want to protect.
