Post republished itself and external links no longer working

Help please! I selected a feature image for one of my older posts (February post), updated it, and somehow the post republished itself and is now sitting at the top of my blog roll. the problem is that this image was linked to by external sites and that link is no longer working. I see that the post of still cached on Google, but no idea how/if it can be reinstalled. Can you help me with this please? If possible I’d like the post reinstalled as and where it was situated on my blog roll.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble! You can always change the publish date for a post if you need. Since the post’s date is included in the link to the post, changing the publish date will change the link.

If you can let me know which post was changed and what date it’s supposed to have, I can also do that for you.

Hiya – thanks for responding. So is it just a matter of changing the url back to the original (with date change)? If so, that’s easy enough!

Yep! If you change the publish date on the post back to the original date, it will change the URL back to the original URL.

If that happens to you again when you edit and update a post, please let me know — the publish date shouldn’t change when you update a post unless you choose to change it, so if that continues to be a problem I’d like to track down the cause so we can fix that for you. :)

Great, thanks for your help Rachel. And I will let you know if it happens again – all I’d done was to select a feature image and save it.

Rachel, I realise I’m not sure how to change the url – can you do it for me please? The current post is: http://thekiwicook.wordpress.com/2014/08/23/cherry-orange-galette-3/ and the original post was: http://thekiwicook.wordpress.com/2014/02/08/cherry-orange-galette-3/ Thanks a million!

    Hi Susan,

Sure thing! I changed the post’s publish date back to February 8, so it’s at the original URL now.

If you want to make that kind of change again, you can do it in the post editor when you edit your post. In the “Change Status” box, you can choose a different date for the post and that will change the date in the post’s URL.

Just let me know if I can do anything more to help. :)

Rachel, thanks so much and I can see now how to change it should it happen again. Kind regards.
