Post slider

Hi
I have started using WordPress for the first time and have managed to iron out most of the issues I’m having but I can work out how to activate the post slider that appears at the top of my theme. Could you help?

Hi there. You need to set up featured content to have the post slider display. In your dashboard, go to Appearance ->Customize. In the featured content tab of the customiser, assign a tag that you’ll use for featured posts. Assign that tag to posts you want to display in the post slider and the slider should appear on your home page.

Hi. I was wondering if this would work if the front page is converted into a static page, or does the slide only work if the theme is set to latest posts?

Some themes have a showcase page template which usually include a slider (for example, twenty-eleven). If you use that template for your static page then you should be able to set up a slider, but it depends entirely on the settings for your theme.
If your theme does not have a showcase template, then , as far as I know, the slider can only appear if your posts page is your home page and some themes don’t have a slider at all (though I think some of the portfolio themes, like Sketch, also has the slider for the portfolio page template if you use that for your home page).
I’d recommend you create yourself a test blog (set it to private so it’s not visible), import/create a few posts and pages on it, and then you can use it to experiment with themes you like to see what’s possible and what not with a particular theme.
