Post Template Block

As I add posts there appears to be an order in which they are displayed chronologically in the post template block that I am using (newer posts at top, which I do like). But my first post, rather than getting bumped down, keeps staying at the top left of this block. I am unable it seems to drag that below, as it is an auto-generated code block that takes care of the placement. Can a fix can be explained? Thank you very much!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @chardberndt,

It looks like your “Real Time” post has been set to sticky, meaning it will always show as the first post. Here’s how you can update that: https://wordpress.com/support/post-and-page-visibility/#sticky-posts-posts-only

    Hope that helps.

Awesome. Thank you! I misinterpreted the concept of the sticky and now it makes sense to me and I fixed the issue.

Although, wait, actually that made the post disappear from the Post Template Block altogether. Only six posts show after doing that, and then when I select sticky again and update, it reappears at the top as before. When I unselect the sticky the link to it disappears. Suggestion?

  • Hi there,

I think the issue is that the Query Loop block on your homepage template is set to show only 6 posts (+ any sticky posts you have)

The issue is that you have 7 blog posts on your site, and and when you remove the “sticky” setting on “Real Time” it is no longer pinned to the top of the feed. Because your Query Loop block is set to show only six posts (and this is technically your 7th post) it disappears from view.

With that in mind the easiest solution is to edit your homepage template here: https://wordpress.com/site-editor/funnywhenyouthinkaboutit.wordpress.com

On that page, you can click on the Query Loop block, and set the number of posts displayed from 6 to 7

This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to change this setting.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Super. Thanks, amigo jerrysarcastic. That worked. I set it to 9 for now, and can add to that later. I basically want an indeterminate length list that has newest items at the top. I am posting once per week. Should I just keep using this block and can it grow indefinitely, or will I need to somehow add additional blocks?

  • Yes, you can keep using that block. There’s no need to use additional blocks.
