Post text disappeared and no revision history
-
I wrote 1000 words of a draft blog post on my laptop last night and added an image to this. However, I logged into WordPress on my phone to continue working this morning, and all the text has gone, although the uploaded image is still there. The draft has autosaved at the moment I started ‘editing’ today despite not manually changing anything. However, there is no revision history showing for this post in the editor – this is showing for all other posts, so this is very unusual. As far as I’m aware, I did not go offline during editing last night – and in any case, it has saved the image but not the text, even though I added the image after some of the text. Is there any way I can recover the text?

Apologies, it’s automatically generated the wrong blog in the post – the blog the article was trafnidiaeth.wordpress.com

Hi there,
Can you please let me know the title of that post so I can have a closer look?
Also, were you using the new editor at https://wordpress.com/ or the classic one at https://trafnidiaeth.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ ?

Hi. The post is called “Trafnidiaeth Ffantasi: Cardiff suburban lines”. I was working on it using the new editor. I did take a look at it today using the old editor after the text disappeared but it was the same on both.

This is super frustrating, and apologies that you’re having to deal with this issue.
I’ve passed along your site, and post, so that we can try and track down what is happening.
Could you let me know which steps you took in the editor before the post disappeared. Things like…
– adding media
– pasting content
– previewing post
– saved as draftPlease share as much as you can. Unfortunately I do not believe we can recover this as there are no revisions available.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve been using WordPress for the best part of 10 years without any major issues so this has come as a surprise.
I started the article as normal last night – began a draft in the visual editing mode, gave it a title, started writing, added the image (which has survived), then kept writing (including occasional pasting of a word or two). As far as I’m aware, it was autosaving in the background as normal. The last I remember is leaving it at the end of the night – nothing out of the ordinary happened and it was all still there.
This morning, I logged into my WordPress account on my mobile (Android), went to the article to continue drafting it and all the text had disappeared, though the image was/is still there. It also seemed to immediately autosave at that time, which I guess might have been the point where it was lost – perhaps it was something to do with logging in on the mobile that wiped it? It’s very odd. When I logged in on my work laptop a short time later, I could see there were no revisions, which is in contrast to the other articles I’ve begun drafting on the blog. The blog itself is only a couple of days old.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much @jbennettf1, I’ll pass these details along. The image being present in the app suggests the content, or at least part of it, was synced to the app but our developers will be able to take a close look.
