Post thumbnails but not a gallery?

    I’m converting my existing plain old html + css web site into a wordpress powered one, but I’m a little confused about the pictures. I’m brand new to wordpress & php & blogging.

    I already have an images folder with all my images in, so I’d really rather not upload them again.

    What I’m looking for is the ability to have within a page and posts a number of thumbnails, from which I can use the jQuery Colorbox plugin to view the full size ones. I’m looking for something similar to the AWSOM PixGallery plugin, but one that a) is easy to understand, b) just displays the thumbs in the post as I like the colorbox plugin for the zoom. Auto thumbnailing isn’t a must since I already have some thumbnails and can generate the rest I need.

    Anyone have any ideas??

    On WordPress.com hosted blogs you can’t use external plugins (see http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/). That said, take a look at the Gallery options, and the new Slideshow feature.
