Post titles have disappeared!

    Hi guys,

My post titles have disappeared from my homepage.

Is anyone else having this problem?

    I haven’t changed any settings.

    Thanks

    Ok well that’s odd.

My last post was posted using the “quick post form” and selecting the link format.

I managed to get my post titles to reappear by changing the format of that particular post to standard format.

I don’t think posting a link post should cause all my titles to disappear.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

    Thanks

Looks like your titles are back.

Odd thing is that when I first looked at your site they weren’t there, so I went to a recent post via the widget in your sidebar to see if you’d set the post format to “aside” somehow. No. It was a standard format post. I returned to the home page and the titles were there. No idea what was going on!

    Hi 1tess,

    Yes it’s very odd!

After I noticed the titles weren’t there I tried to think of what I did differently – that was posting in “link format”, which I had never done before, so I changed it back to “standard format”.

That’s why you say the titles reappear.

The thing is, why on earth do the titles disappear if I post in link formats!?

Oh, good. It’s not just too early for me then. Here is the support doc about post formats:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/

How each format looks is theme dependent, so in Zoren you’ll see a very large link icon and a title, on Motion a small word “link” with no title, and on Chateau small word “link” with no title.

Clicking on the word “link” (or the icon) shows all posts with that format.

Why no titles, though? Link posts and aside posts are supposed to be not quite whole posts so maybe that’s why designers do that.

1tess, Thanks so much for your help.

I think I’ll stick to standard formats in the future and add links etc. manually!

    :)

Right. The whole point of alternative post formats is that they make posts show in a changed way, to highlight different types of content. You only use an alternative post format if you like that change: you don’t have to select the image format to post images, or the gallery format to post galleries, or the link format to post links.

    Ok that’s fair enough.

But since that list of options is available when posting each time it looks like it’s post specific, hence making me think it would only effect the format settings for that particular post.

When I selected the link format for my latest post it effected every post.

It doesn’t matter too much as standard formatting is fine for my needs, and I understand that each theme behaves differently.

Looks like a bug to me. The link format should apply to only the posts with that format chosen.

But on the Motion home page, if there is a link formatted post, then all posts display as link formatted posts.

Clicking on the word “link” correctly brings up only the link format posts.

I think you are right 1tess – no worries, I can do it manually :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, it’s not supposed to do that. I’ve modlooked this thread so the theme wranglers can fix it.

    Great! Thanks very much.

  • Hi Mark and Tess,

I wanted to confirm with y’all that we can duplicate the issue and the Theme Wranglers are working on it.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

We just pushed out a fix, that addressed this issue.

    Thanks for the heads up!
