Post titles on archive categories pages – no contents

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everybody
In my blog I’ve created some categories (cinema, books, comics…etc)
When post an article I check the category for it and there’s no problem.
Now on the right sidebar I’ve the Categories widget with their names (cinema, books..)
Example (what happens and what I would like to have):
I click on “cinema” category and this opens a page with a list of posts regarding cinema (partial posts with “more..” at the end of each one).. Ok.
So I can read about ten post BUT I instead would like to read ONLY a “links list” with the cinema posts’ titles without the content (readable when a click on the title as a link do)… It is possible to do in a simple way or I have to create by myself a Link page for each category?
    Thanks in advance
    Ciao
    Best regards
    Gianfranco (Jfk)

The only “easy” way to create a Link page is to move to using a theme where there are page templates for this purpose. Mistylook is one theme that has this feature and that’s why I use it.
You create a page, enter the title only, check of “links” in the template box and click save. The Links in your blogroll will be automatically displayed. Here is an example for you to view: http://thistimethisspace.com/links/

This can be done in MistyLook.

    Creating an Archive page.
The Archives page displays by Categories, by Month and also includes a list of the Most Recent 50 Post Titles. Here’s an example: http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/archives/

Please note that this is a poor example because I have not used sub-categories in this blog. However, if you have sub-categories then they will be displayed.

    @ auroraboreale

I’m sorry I misunderstood you and replied with instructions for creating a Links Page when what I meant to do was to describe how to create an Archives page. Please see the second post on creating an Archives Page. Also note that the FAQs has instructions for creating a “Site Index”. It’s not an easy automatic process. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/11/how-do-i-make-a-site-index/

    @ timethief:

    Here I’m again :)
I use Mystylook theme so I create a new page called “All the Cinema Posts” with “Archives” Template but how to paste on it all my links to existing Cinema Posts? (I have on the right sidebar the categories widget but if I open Cinema it shows a page with partial posts – as your “by categories” does)…
I don’t understand if I have to create a page with all the list (li html tags) by myself or there’s something automatic to use… where’s my mistake?
    Thanks in advance
    Jfk

Go to -> Write -> Page and type in the title “All Cinema Posts”
leave the rest of the page blank.

Outside of the editor’s box on the right hand side you will see a row of blue buttons – find the one called Page Templates +

Click on the + sign and it will open.

Now click on the little arrow under “Default Template” and it will open.

Select “Archives” and now click “Publish” in the editor box.

The programming will automatically supply the contents for the archives page “All Cinema Posts”.

Please understand that you will get all your categories displaying on this archives page and not just “All Cinema Posts”. There is no way to get only one category to display using this method or any other that I am aware of.

Ok I did but this is not what that I want :) because it is the same as the categories widgets do.. so the only way I found is copy/paste only titles link excluding the rest (of the cinema’s posts) in a blank page… I know that is static and I don’t know to change in dynamic system (when I’ll make a new cinema post I’ll have to add manually in this page…)
Other way could be transform all posts in pages under a mother page call “cinema”… but this means loose all posts one under each other… ok well, thanks a lot.
    Ciao

I’m sorry this didn’t work out to be what you wanted in the end. I had the feeling that it wouldn’t. But, at least you know what is and what is not possible.
    Ciao
