Post “types” within WordPress affecting permalinks
-
I’m in the process of rebuilding a website in WordPress using Elementor which was originally built on a proprietary CMS. Design-wise I’ve been able to get it very true to the original which has been fantastic, but I’m a little stuck with one issue regarding permalinks.
It’s very important that the permalinks all match up with the site that’s being replaced as when the switch happens there needs to be as minimal disruption or difference as possible for obvious reasons.
So there are about 3 different post types from what I can see, on the site I’m rebuilding, and they have different URL structures.
When I started I only focused on news articles and managed to get those mirrored perfectly with the permalink structure of /thought-leadership/%postname%/
Now, that structure is perfect, but the /thought-leadership/ part need only apply to article posts. I now have two further post types which need a different slug:
/about/news/ for company news, and;
/about/our-team/ for the individual team member pages.
Seeing tags, I thought I might be able to create the post tags as you can define slugs for them, and then have the permalink structure as /%posttag%/%postname% or something like this, but I’m a bit stumped as I don’t see how I’d get this to work.
Is there a way to add a post type which would make this possible? I can’t use post category as the articles are not within a “thought leadership” category and are categorised in another way.
Maybe there is a plugin out there which would assist me in achieving this outcome?
Any help is very much appreciated!
