post vs. pages

  I began a blog/journal and want to put a new page up for the year sequentially without moving my original posts. (Does this make sense?) Can I rename my home page as a date and then the next page as the subsequent date?

  Or how do I move all the posts to another page, and then I can keep the Home page with the current posts?

  I will have to read this a couple of times to understand it, and then decide what categories for what pages. If you know of any blogs that might have show this, it would be great. Thanks for this. cp
