postaweek2011 isn’t helping

Just a quick complaint I wanted to share. At the beginning of 2011 there was a WordPress newsletter promoting blogging more often through 2 ways, either posting once a week, or posting once a day. Those participating were to put either postaweek2011 or postaday2011 in their tags to kind of move themselves along. After doing so (postaweek2011) I received a massive amount of spam comments. I’m not sure why it does that but since then I removed postaweek2011 from my tags. Anyone else have that problem?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Wow! That’s too bad. However, I would not have deleted the tags. We can set our blogs up so we Moderate comments. If you did then it only takes moments to send the phony spam ones to the spam filter Akismet and delete them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

I’m wondering if this is a source of some of my spam referrals?

It stopped for a while, but there it was again this morning 19 directs from some spammer site. :(

    Good luck to everyone.

It’s a fact of life in cyberspace that spammers are opportunists who use every means available to obtain URLs to site where they can post their spammy links. Akismet is at the top of the best spam filters there are available. What needs to be done is for all bloggers to practice vigilance and common sense. Become aware that everything posted to your blog reflects your brand and use comment moderation. If you have spam referrals follow Staff instructions.

Staff are acting on this. This situation is merely an annoyance. It does not affect your blog’s standing with Google in any way.

Staff have created a filtering system. They have requested that we do not click the spam refferer links because that is what the spammers want us to do. They have also requested that we do not post any referrer information into forum threads, but instead that we report all spam reffer links directly to them. If you have not reported the links directly to Staff please do that now. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
