Posterous Import
-
I’m trying to import my posterous site to http://subvertorg.wordpress.com/
I’m getting the email that the import succeeded (almost instantly), but no posts show up.
What should my next step be?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Just to make sure, are you following all of the steps correctly from the help article here?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/
Including unzipping the file which you got from Posterous and importing only the .xml file? I ask because people run afoul of that step all the time!
Let me know if you’re hitting all the steps and still running in to issues!

Thanks for checking the basics…but I think I’m doing it correctly. I’ve imported three other posterous sites this week, they all went perfectly, this one gave me trouble.
The primary difference I see here is that the number of historic posts is larger than for the other imported sites, but I don’t think it should be more than the importer can handle (48k).
I can make the export xml file available if that helps.

Hi there,
If you would please, that would be great. Just upload it to your Media Library and then provide a link here, we will then take a look and see what is going on with it.
Thank you much!

I’ve uploaded the file here:
http://subvertorg.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=5I zipped it up and changed the extension to .zip.xls to allow it to upload in media library.
Thanks!

Hi there,
Thanks for getting that to me. I took a look at the file which you provided and compared it with one of the import attempts which you made, and both looked OK (meaning there was no corruption during the upload process).
At this point I would recommend that you download a new export from Posterous, just to make sure, and then try the import of the .xml file again. Let me know how it goes!

I’ve done a new backup. However it gives me the same result. I almost immediately get an email saying the import is done. However, no posts are visible on the site.
I’ve placed the file here:
http://subvertorg.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=8 -
I got it to work by editing the xml file.
I needed to replace

with

Josh Rivers
-
Hi Josh,
Thanks for writing back, both times (especially the second one!). If you get a chance, could you check if the Posterous account had any author set in the first place?
I will add this to our documentation and bring it up to the developer who works on that importer to see if there is anything which can be automated around that tag.
Thanks again for letting me know about your fix!

The content had originally been imported _into_ posterous, so I think you’re right that no author had been set.
