I am also trying to import from Posterous. I have backed up my Posterous posts, and have it stored on my computer. All of my posts are given cryptic numbers such as 11998414.xml so I don’t know which is which. I also noticed that I have a file called wordpress_export_1.xml that is not located in the same folder as the posts. The instructions are not clear. I’ve copied the xml files from the posts folder to a new folder so that I can import them. Am I supposed to import them all at once and include the wordpress_export_1.xml file also? How do I know which posts are which? Will I be able to select the posts that I want to post now, select the ones that I want to post later, and discard others before they are published? Thanks.

hurstaka, the import to http://hurstaka.wordpress.com/ appears to have worked properly for me. I’m not sure what was up, but at least it’s done now. :)

mrouchell, per the instructions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/ you’ll only need to import the wordpress_export_1.xml file.

Oh that’s great thanks. I wonder why it wouldn’t import for me? I have a second, separate posterous blog space with a different XML File. If I send that also, could you do that one for me too? Does WordPress have the same set up, where you can have a different blog spaces/addresses for different sets of blogs?

You can register as many free blogs as you want under your account, just visit https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/ while logged in.

Having probs creating a new blog. Have filled in all the fields, Blog Address, Blog Title and Privacy settings then clicking on Basic. But then the page refreshes and the blog address box is empty. I have tried entering wordpress.com and hurstaka.wordpress.com but am not able to create a new blog.

The settings on my existing lists the web address – http://hurstaka.wordpress.com. So I am assuming the blog address would be the same as this. Is this correct?

No, http://hurstaka.wordpress.com/ is one blog.

If you want to register a second separate blog, choose a different blog URL. :)

Dear Macmanx,

same problem with the xml file, it said “Sorry, ther has been an error
The file is not an xml file. Please see instructions for downloading and using the Posterous backup file.”

Please help. The blog i want to upload to is http://tashawui.wordpress.com
