Posterous Import

  • Unknown's avatar

I just imported my Posterous blog into my new WordPress.com one. I’m seeing two issues:

    1. The newer posts are showing attachments fine – jpgs, pdfs, etc. – are being imported. But older posts are still linking back to Posterous, instead of being uploaded to WordPress (and therefore having a WordPress link). My concern is that once Posterous is shut down, these files will no longer be available. Why is that? And is there anything I can do to fix it?

    2. On one of the blogs, I imported, but didn’t like the way it came in, and now I’m trying to reimport, but it’s only pulling in the first post – not all of the others. Any thoughts?

    Thank you,

    Michael

  • Hi there,

My concern is that once Posterous is shut down, these files will no longer be available. Why is that? And is there anything I can do to fix it?

If your Posterous blog is still up, we can run a script to try to fix those images.

Could you please provide a couple of example links to post with the images still pointing to Posterous?

    2. On one of the blogs, I imported, but didn’t like the way it came in, and now I’m trying to reimport, but it’s only pulling in the first post – not all of the others. Any thoughts?

Our importer will detect duplicates and won’t re-import posts that have already been imported, even if you put the duplicate in the trash. You could try emptying the trash, or better yet, you can try fixing up the post to get it looking how you’d like. If you need any help with this, feel free to provide a link and let me know what you’re after, and I’ll be glad to take a look.

    Hi —

That would be great – I have several blogs that I’ve moved over, and they’re all exhibiting the same behavior – re: the links back to Posterous. I notice in a lot of cases it’s the files, not the pictures that are linking back to Posterous (don’t know if that helps?)

    Here are a few examples:

And thank you re: the second issue – I emptied the trash, and that did the trick.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Michael

    Great, glad to hear it.

Our importer doesn’t support PDF, csv, or other non-image/audio/video files, so you’ll need to import those into your WordPress.com site manually.

In terms of the images, I will ask our developers to run the image-fixer script on this site – http://michaeljsonntag.wordpress.com – and will keep you posted here.

Aha – got it, that makes sense. I’ve checked the other blogs, and they appear to be fine then.

    Thank you!

  • The images still pointing to Posterous on http://michaeljsonntag.posterous.com/ should now be fixed – turns out there were only four. :-)

    Happy blogging!
