Posterous import fails
-
I have a backup from a small Posterous blog. It looks fine, unzipped and all the files are there. When I try to import <wordpress_export_1.xml> using the tool, WordPress reports “File is not XML”. It is. I can edit it and it is clearly well formed XML. The file is 215Kb. Any suggestions?

Are you using this guide? http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/
Have you tried using another browser? http://browsehappy.com
You cannot upload a zip file. Posterous sends you a .zip file which you need to open to retrieve the files inside. Per the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-posterous/ you’ll need to upload the wordpress_export_1.xml file, not the one you tried to import. Please see what Staff amightywp says in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/posterous-download-zip-folder-will-not-extract-for-import?replies=14#post-1242796

Thanks. Upload worked in Chrome, not in IE. Nothing to do with reported XML error. I see now this is a regular problem. I wouldn’t have guessed the browser was the cause. Perhaps someone would like to add it to the known bugs list on the Posterous imports guide so beginners like me don’t waste people’s time?

You accomplished it. Thanks for sharing the good news. I’ll tag your known issues update suggestion for Staff. Happy blogging!
