I’ve notice that when I save posts as a draft, and then publish them later, they are published accroding to the draft date, and not the final date I’ve published them. I’ve tried changing the published date in my dashboard when this occurs but with no luck. How can I get published drafts to appear as the date published, and not the date written and saved as a draft?

    Hi there!

Would you mind sending me a URL to a post where this occurred?

Looking at a specific instance might help me figure out what happened.

Along with that URL, please let me know approximately what date/time you actually hit publish on the post.

My first instinct is somehow the posts must be backdating (normally done by using Schedule)– but that shouldn’t happen just because a post is saved as a draft.

Sure, here is the order of events:

#1 I wrote this post and published immediately: http://his-girl-friday.com/2015/01/07/cold-hands-warm-heart-and-the-best-tomato-soup-recipe-ever/
#2 Then I wrote this post and saved as a draft: http://his-girl-friday.com/2015/01/08/being-happy-all-by-my-bad-self/
#3 Then I wrote and published this post: http://his-girl-friday.com/2015/01/08/you-asked-for-it/#more-2051
    Finally, I published post #2

Although post #2 should be the most recent, post #3 is, instead. Sorry, this is confusing :-/ hopefully th

    Thanks for the information!

So looking at those posts’ records, nothing seems to indicate that it was saving as Draft first that set the post order.

The only thing making Post #2 appear earlier is that it’s Published time was “00:42 on Jan 8th” and Post #3 publish time was “00:43 on Jan 8th” — within a minute of each other. My guess is that Post #3 may have just taken a bit to process, so even though you hit its publish button first it actually finished publishing later.

Certainly not a typical though, so please let me know if you have more information. I have tried to observe the error using your steps, I just haven’t been able to replicate it.

If you’d like to fix the order now, though, what I’d recommend is to Edit post #2, which should’ve been published more recently,

Then click “edit” next to the published time (looks like this) and select a time later than 00:43 on Jan 8th. Then click update.

This will adjust its order in your posts feed, but will not send out new notifications (since this is just an update, not its first publication.)
