posting blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Recently, when I post my blog on facebook, there is no picture next to it. I used to have the picture that’s actually on the top of my blog post. I tried the avatar/gravatar thing but it still doesn’t show up unless i pick a default one and that will show up. But, I want the blog post picture that’s at the top of each post. thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Can you send me a link to one of your blog posts where the picture isn’t showing up? I’ll be happy to take a look at it for you.

It shows up on the blog (and it used to show up when I linked it to my FB page) but now there’s nothing when I link it to FB. My FB is Jessica Roe in MInneapolis and my blog is http://www.theyearsof50.com.
It’s totally blank next to the thumbnail. And the only way I can get anything there is to use the standard avatar. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I took a look at your blog at theyearsof50.com. For an image to be sent to Facebook when your post is publicized, the image has to be at least 200 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall. The header image at the top of your blog is only 180 pixels tall, so it isn’t big enough to be used by Facebook.

To have an image publicized with your post on Facebook, you’ll need to make sure there is an image that’s at least 200×200 pixels to go with your post. One way to do this would be to add a larger Featured Image to each post.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Hi,
I tried to fix the size last night but couldn’t. Why did it work all last year and the last few months but recently changed. I just want that image that I use from wordpress to show up on the facebook thumbnail. Or, I can use another image if I have to. I just don’t want nothing or the set avatars. Thanks!

    Hi there,

Can you send me a link to your Facebook page? I’d be happy to look at the posts that showed up with and without a picture to see why it’s changed for you.

Since the header image on your blog at http://www.theyearsof50.com/ is 180 pixels tall, I’d recommend adding a Featured Image to your posts, instead. As long as the featured image is at least 200×200 pixels, it will be sent to Facebook when you publish the post.

    Hi there,

Thanks for sending the link to your Facebook page. It looks like the blog that was publicizing to Facebook is actually your blog at http://theyearsafter50.com/ (rather than the one at http://www.theyearsof50.com/ ). I took a look at one of the posts that was publicized to Facebook without a photo: http://theyearsafter50.com/2013/11/08/its-done/

We send several images to Facebook when you publicize posts, but it’s up to Facebook to decide which one to try to use in the Facebook post. In this case, Facebook was trying to use your blog’s avatar (the blavatar) but that image wasn’t large enough for Facebook to use. The best way around that is to add a featured image to your posts if you want to publicize them — as long as the image is at least 200×200 pixels, it should be used.
