posting by email for registered users only

  At present anyone can post to my blog if they have the email address that WordPress has created.

  Would it not be sensible / possible to restrict the posts only to emails coming from registered users for the blog? I am worried that the email address will eventually get inadvertantly shared and we get bombarded with inappropriate posts.

  By the way – this is a FANTASTIC facility.

  At this time, we do not have a way to restrict where the emails are coming from. The Post by Email address is unique, and you can always regenerate it if there is a problem.

  Just to be on the safe side, you might want to set a schedule to maybe regenerate it monthly.

  Thank you for the response. Disappointing! Surely the way is to look at the list of approved users for the site?

  The other thing is that every post that is made by email is assigned to me (an administrator) rather than to the person who has posted it. We have about 10 registered authors on the site it would be good if when they send an email they could be recognised as the person publishing the post.

  Each user can actually register their own Post by Email address, so the posts can remain assigned to them.

  Thanks for your response. I have searched (Ctrl F) the link that you have provided but can find nothing that tells me how a user can register their own post by email address. Sorry – I sometimes cannot see for looking. Please copy and paste how or give me a more direct link.

  All each user has to do is follow the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

  They’ll go to the My Blogs section and enable Post by Email for their account.

  OK – I understand now – so they will each have a unique email address for this blog. Not really what I wanted – I was hoping we could all use just one email address. This was supposed to make it easy for novice internet users.

  Also I guess this issue relates to my first request to be able to restrict the emails from approved users.

  Right, each user would set their own Post by Email address connected to the blog. As long as they keep that secret, you’ll know who the posts are coming from.
