posting html for third-party hosted videos

    hi,
im new and cant figure out hoe to post simple HTML using <embed> tags. I’ve tried pasting the code straight into text box, pating html into rich html editor, pasting the code straight into text box with rich html turned OFF, and finally I’ve tried pasting html into text box using “code” button with rich html editor turned off.

My html <embed> codes work on other websites and blogs, and i am copying them stright from text source. In other words , there is no dout the code itself is good.

How do I get Wrodpress to accept this html code that posts videos from third party hosts?

    Thanks,
    Nerissa

its me again. i was finaly able to find some former requests for video help on this forum (i had to cheat the url using any unrelated link inthe tag section becuase the link to search from other help areas only resulted in word press blog searches.) Anyway….

I read that wordpress just doesnt allow <embed> html code to be posted in wordpress blogs “for our protection”. But they did create special html tags for user to embed videos from youtube.com and one other video sharing site.

So my question is— is this for real? I mean, is this really true?

    thanks,
    nerissa

  • Yes, there is a special code that allows posting of Youtube, Google, and (I believe) audioblog.com. Other than that is currently blocked.

Wouldn’t it make sense to disable the uncheck for the option under Users->Your Profile:

[ ] Use the visual rich editor when writing

if turning it off does not do that? It give the impression that HTML code like <object …>…<embed …>…</embed></object> can be placed in.

  • Nope, you can’t post objects or embed whether or not you have the HTML editor turned on.

Adding the object and embed tags question to the FAQ…

as far as I know, you can’t embed videos using the HTML codes/link etc in the text boxs in your sidebar widgets. you can embed google and youtube videos in pages and posts, but wordpress have the special codes for it, not the common codes u get from google/youtube.
    check the FAQ.
after you write the way wordpress tell u to do to embed a video, like this…eg. [youtube=link], or [google=link], one thing to make it work/upload is to press Ctrl+v simultenaously..when you paste it to ur posts/pages.
I am not a technotype of person, but I did just that, thanks to the tips I got from this forum.
    …hope this help.

Also, you can embed dailymotion videos and BubbleShare slideshows. For videos that you can’t embed on WordPress, just post an image of the video player, and then a link to the video under the image. Viewers can then click the image to see the video.
