Posting in Hebrew

Hello! When I began this blog many years ago WordPress was the best one to use for Hebrew and it was easy to do so. It is no longer the case. Even though I change the direction of the text, if I stop typing for a minute it will not let me return to the right place in a line. Editing an error is so tricky, everything jumps. Punctuation will not change sides and move to the wrong end. Even if I type the text in WORD and paste it in some things shift. Even adding pictures behaves strangely – if I add a caption it forgets all my formatting for size. Using Chrome and Windows 10. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Can you tell us the URL of the site you’re working on?

  • Thanks for that — it is hosted here, but I haven’t seen the issues you’re describing. If you’re willing and have the skill, could you get a screencast?

I’ll also ask our internationalization team if they’ve seen this.

  • Also, regarding the captions, that may be something else; if you’ll send screenshots we can take a look:

    Take a Screenshot

You can either upload to snipboard.io or a similar service, or add the images to your media library so we can check on them there. Then update us here.

    Hello!
I truly appreciate you trying to help.
I just added a new post and was very frustrated.
This time, even the title, which I stopped writing in Hebrew and wrote in English has the exclamation mark at the wrong end.
You’ll see a period at the end of the first sentence. It was after the word Rebus which I was forced to move down a line otherwise it jumped to the beginning of the Hebrew sentence.
You’ll see there is no period at the end of the fourth sentence. I just erased it because it appeared at the beginning of the line.
Two lines below the sentence in English “have a happy new year” you’ll see the period at the beginning of the sentence.
YES I DID set the page to “right to left”.
In addition, once the page is set in the right direction for Hebrew, it will not let me add a word – the cursor immediately jumps. It’s very tricky if I want to add a space between lines by hitting enter (in order to add a picture) because when I place the cursor at the end of the line it creates a space ABOVE.
    I waste so much time!!!

    Thank you!

    Hello!
Thank you again for trying to help!
Now that the editor has changed, I don’t know if it will happen now. I added media for the first time with the new editor and didn’t write a caption. So I don’t know.
    Yours,
    Naomi

  • Naomi, would you be willing to make a private post that displays all of these issues, without you trying to fix them? Just type like you normally would, then save as a private post. Then tell us the title so we can check it for you.

I’ll do it over the weekend.
    Thanks again

    Hello again!
How do I save it as a private post, like you requested? I don’t see such an option. I have publish, save a draft and preview.

    Hello again,
Okay, I think I succeeded in saving it as a private post.
The name of the post is
    ספרייה פדגוגית מקוונת מתעדכנת ברצף

    Please note the following:
    * One GOOD thing – with the new editor I can add a word I had forgotten without it screwing up everything. GREAT!
    * If I highlighted individual paragraphs a dialog box popped up and I could align right to left. For the life of me I cannot figure out how find that dialog box when I choose the whole text. I got tired of this slow way and you will see the last paragraphs have not been aligned right to left.
    * The punctuation is on the wrong side. Notice where it put the exclamation mark in the title.
    * Every time I add one word in English the whole sentence loses its word order and is a scrambled incorrect line of text.

    Thank you!
