posting of word files with tables
-
Do you think that will listen to the feedback?
Of course not.
WP is for tablet imbeciles not serious PC users! -
Please, please return both the paste as text and paste as word functions as they were before this upgrade. The additional line breaks/para breaks I get when I paste from pdf mean every line has to be edited. We were going to upgrade to a paid version – so glad now we didn’t.

As Inmg says: “Please, please return both the paste as text and paste as word functions as they were before this upgrade”.
1. Word paste simply does not work (italic, bold, and footnote features were just great, please have them back!). It is time consuming to reformat everything in the WP editor, not mentioning risks to add mistakes!
2. In image editing, both “open in a new window” and “text” parameter disappeared. Again it is time consuming to do the equivalent in text tab instead of visual tab.
Software used: Word 2007, Firefox 28 on Windows 8.1 (French versions for all).
Thanks for your help

I’m sure this change was meant to be an improvement but it’s proving to be a right royal, PITA. It actually makes much harder for me. I used to cut text from the emails from a group I work with and paste them in a WP document. I used to the paste the text into the drop box from the Paste Text icon. This would ensure that all fonts, sizes, formats etc were the same for all twenty different contributors. With the ‘improvement’ I’m told to just paste it into my document. So now instead of one uniform looking post, I have many different fonts and sizes. So professional looking.
My work around requires more work than before the change. Now I have to open a word doc, paste the text there, copy all, change the font and size THEN I can paste it into my WP post.
Add to that, the paste text icon says “Paste is now in plain text mode. Contents will now be pasted as plain text until you toggle this option off.” but there are no instruction on how to toggle it off AND nothing to explain what happens if you do toggle it off.
Does the Paste Text drop box reappear? Can you paste text into the box and make them all paste into the post in the same size and format?
Anyway, mark me down displeased with the change.

I just don’t know why you had to mess with something that worked. I’m not even interested in this anymore! Blaaaaaaaaaah …

As I posted in another thread, I’ve been testing pasting from MS Word and Google Docs directly into the Visual editor. In both Firefox and Chrome on a Mac, it looks like fonts (and font sizes) are not carried over, so you will need to address font styling on your WordPress.com site.
In Chrome, formatting like Bold and Italic is carried over from MS Word but not Google Docs; both work in Firefox.
Both should allow you to paste bulleted lists, tables and hyperlinks.
If you are not able to reproduce my results, or if you have other unexpected issues pasting from word processors, more information on your word processor and browser/browser version would be helpful.

Dear Jackiedana,
So you tested on a Mac, and it works fine with Firefox and Ms Word. Great! But did you test on Windows?
I did with Word 2007 and Firefox 28 on 8.1 and nothing worked!
-
From additional testing it looks like like pasting from Word/Google Docs in Firefox in Windows may be an issue. I’d be curious to hear if it works in Chrome and IE.

Once again, WP “fixes” something that works perfectly well. I’ve used the Paste from Word button since joining WP 8 years ago – losing it is not an improvement – the new system does not work.
I can paste text from Word, but what I get is Plain Text. Then I get to go through the whole damn thing reformatting it. And this is progress?
Fix it please, WP.
NB: That was Firefox 28.0 Tried Chrome (Version 33.0.1750.154 m) – formatting is back but the whole document is double-spaced. Why don’t you make sure these changes work before you make them, WP?

Pasting from Word using Chrome was okay — formatting and hyperlinks were retained.
But pasting from Word using Firefox 28.0 wasn’t okay — formatting and hyperlinks were NOT retained.

Please replace the Word box for posting. This new formating is awful. None of my links work. I now have to install each one manually, which takes considerable time and is an unnecessary burden. The other system was a breeze. This is a mess. There was no need to “fix” what was not broken.
If you are committed to going this new route, please consider offering both. -

I am creating a new post but was not aware of the paste from word change until now.
When I copied the text from my Word document that included a quote with superscript numbers, I clicked on the T icon and received a message saying, “Paste is now in plain text mode. Contents will now be pasted as plain text until you toggle this option off.”
However, I noticed the superscript numbers did not transfer over properly. I went in and pasted the information again without using the T option and it still is not doing.
I also tried to find information to toggle the option off but could not. I guess I am not clear what this means or where I may be able to locate the information. Please explain what does it mean to “toggle this option off” and whether it is when I switch between visual to text mode.
Here is an excerpt of one of two text that is not transferring with the superscript above the number but rather below it that can be found at the bottom of my post.

The “Paste from Word” option is gone, as it was removed from the TinyMCE upgrade. We use TinyMCE as part of our editor (that’s all the little formatting buttons). The goal is to not need the Paste from Word button and allow things to work directly in the Visual editor. Right now, though, it looks like we have a few bugs to squish.
What I am trying to do now is collect (and reproduce where possible) reports where pasting into the Visual Editor doesn’t work.
Issues that have been reported:
- When pasting from Google Docs in Chrome (Mac/Windows), formatting (bold, italics, etc.) is removed.
- When pasting from Word or Google Docs from Firefox in Windows, tables are broken.
- Pasting Footnotes in Firefox on a Mac adds formatting code (which can be removed)
- Pasting Footnotes in Firefox on a PC doesn’t work at all.
- Pasting a hyperlink in Firefox on a PC does not display the underlining in the editor window (so it doesn’t look like a link, and the editor doesn’t treat it like one), but the link works when the post is published.
While I have tested and reported on these issues so far, at this time I cannot speak to when they may be resolved. What I have learned is that in (almost) every case, Chrome is working where Firefox fails, so that may be a good short-term solution for some people.

Thanks for the update, jackiedana. Appreciate your efforts on this issue.
I haven’t tried using Chrome as I always use Firefox on a PC, but will do when I have something to copy from Word until this is resolved, which, of course, I hope happens.
Know anything about the scroll bar disappearing in the editor? It’s very difficult to use the toolbar and have to scroll up and down continuously. Not a good idea.

@dandelionsalad, I wasn’t aware of a scroll bar issue, and don’t see that occurring on my PC or Mac. Is this a new issue as of Monday, or has it been happening longer than that?
Since it is unrelated to this particular issue, could you post a new thread about it (tagged ‘modlook’), and include your browser and browser version? If you can, a screenshot would be handy (you can upload that to your media library). Thanks!

It’s not related to MS Word directly (but I couldn’t find a “better thread”) but to a similar function. It’s related to copy & paste respectively DRAG & DROP images and links from a browser window into the visual editor (in another browser window). If there is a more appropriate thread please tell me or move.
Before the update I could “grab” (with the mouse cursor) a text link or an image from a Safari browser window, move/drag it into the WP visual editor and drop. The result was exactly the same active link or image in the editor with all formatting. Super easy and handy. I used that OFTEN.
Now after the newest editor update (some days ago) this is not possible anymore! If I drop a link or image into the editor it will be completely overlayed/covered with a dark blue foreground, a huge white text “Drop files to upload” and a dialog window asking me if I want to open a new browser page and lose all changes (or cancel).
MacBook Pro Retina, OS X 10.9.2, Safari, Firefox, Opera.
Please bring back drag & drop from browser windows into visual editor. Thanks in advance.

To add to the discussion above concerning tables, two days ago I attempted to insert a table I had created in Microsoft Word into a post I was drafting. When I pasted it into the WordPress editor, most of the lines and some of the formatting disappeared. I had to open up my Paintbrush program, recreate the table by drawing a series of solid lines, convert it into a Jpeg image, and upload it into the editor. The finished table (image) can be seen here:
and can be found in this post:

Is there anything in the works to allow charts/tables to be created in the WordPress editor? Thanks so much.
