posting of word files with tables
-
Seriously, tables do not work anymore. I can create tables but they will not show up with lines and cannot work with them anymore. This is sooooooo frustrating. I wish they would have just left it alone. My tables are invisible. HELP!!!!!
-
First, save the document as an HTML file. Then pick it up in Dreamweaver and preview the file. Then copy this and paste into WP.
WOW!!! I am so excited that now I need to run out and buy a completely useless to me new software and do the four step shuffle – I can not tell you how warm a feeling this give me this morning –

Using my Compaq running on Windows XP, Firefox browser & posting from WORD, I got: no bold, no italics, no underline, no links and no table formatting. Color never transferred from WORD for me. I’m not posting this, but here’s the PREVIEW: http://smbasblog.wordpress.com/?p=9665&preview=true
Frankly, I don’t think your new Text/Plain Text toggle works. I get completely unformatted text both ways. If I copy from something already posted, the formatting will transfer. I hope you fix this soon as I’m not posting any more tables until you do, and I post a LOT of tables. Chuck

While you’re at it:
PHOTO GALLERY – When I select SLIDESHOW, it displays in the editor as a bunch of thumbnails although it displays properly in the preview as a slideshow. -
Must add my voice to those very, very unhappy with this change. It literally prevents me from posting as much, because I don’t have time to go through and format everything after writing it up. (And no, I can’t just switch to another word processing program. Seriously??)
Thanks to McLaughey for the suggestion, which I will try.
Copy from Word worked beautifully for me for five years, which is how long I’ve been building my blog site here. Losing that one button seems to mean changing how I have to do all my work. That’s just not feasible. I hope McLaughey’s work-around is handy. Otherwise, this is a crossroads for the future of my WP blog.

This situation is worsened by the fact that everything worked perfectly before the “fix.” I’ve been posting since 2007. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily better, as evidenced by the comments of so many unhappy bloggers.

Anyone else have the scroll missing on the visual editor? I have to use the browser’s scroll bar and there is a lot of scrolling just to be able to use the tool box as my computer screen is horizontal not vertical. Plus there is this huge blank space underneath the text before getting to the Revisions/comments, etc. below the editor. This blank space is sometimes longer than the text.
I posted a screenshot. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lorri37/13500421365/

I think this new format of stripping Microsoft Word’s format is a bad move. At least give an option for those who want to retain the format. Now I have to do extra work to edit those format back which is a big waste of time. Please bring back that formatting option.

Great response from Jackiedana which made me laugh out loud – “Right now, though, it looks like we have a few bugs to squish”
Why don’t you test things?
Honestly, we might as well put our heads in a bucket of water and say “I’ll only come up for breath when you fix it” because they will just watch us drown.
This change is a test version of what will be rolled out to pay-up members so we will have to wait and see what their reaction is.
Rarely have I seen so-called software improvements so damage a product. If Microsoft screw up then they fix it immediately. Improvement is usually about progress not taking us back ten years or so.
I hope WP listen to what people are saying here but I fear that they will be too stubborn to stand down.
Eventually WP will cease to be a serious publishing and blogging platform as it continues to give priority to tablet and mobile phone users. I think we have to accept that and carry on as PC users as long as we can until we are forced to find somewhere else.
Meanwhile of course they continue to generate revenue through advertising on our posts which is fine by me so long as they give us some measure of consideration.
Anyway, we get a free product so that probably reduces our right to complain too loudly.
I really hope that they take into account the serious views and feedback expressed in this lively thread.

Copying table data no longer works without the W button.
Why cannot a table button be installed on the editor? Who decides which buttons are available and why was it decided not to include table buttons?
Reading the views expressed above many hours are being wasted trying to find ways around this problem. -
Not even trying with tables but trying to paste anything from word or open office has resulted in all sorts of weird formatting. Spacing on wordpress now whether I use visual or plain text editor is now either too small or too large.
Please, please bring back this option.

The changes made to the visual editor pretty much ruined it for copying and pasting text from most sources: either you get zero HTML information or you get it all. Previously, the editor had a nice compromise that was extremely useful and helpful. I would like to return to that.
The way it seemed to work is that when text was copied and then pasted into the editor, all HTML was stripped except for the following:
strong
b
em
i
link
blockquote
ul
ol
li
paragraphsWith those HTML tags remaining, the text was generally ready to go, and if modification was needed, then it was easy.
Currently, I’ve had to abandon the editor altogether and am looking at various off-line editors. I hope you can allow an option to do pasting as previously done (described above).
Thanks.

One of our developers has deployed a fix that should help with users trying to paste rich text formatting from Word, etc. in Firefox. Please let me know if you experience any improvements.

Please! I need to paste tables from Word! Can you fix this because it doesn’t work anymore.
Thanks in advance

It appears like things like bold and italic are now staying when copy-pasting (at least from Apple’s Text Edit), but the following still don’t transfer:
• Size changes (for example, combining 13pt type with 11pt type in different sections of the post)
• Line spacing – my posts now all appear to have extra space between each line, something that I didn’t have before.
Examples of line spacing issue:
