posting on a static front page

How can I post recent posts on a static front page?
I read about how to use a sticky and tried that but when I checked my blog to see how it looked my post wasn’t on the front page, it was only under the category like others

How can I get recent ones on the front HOME page that I want to keep static and archive the rest.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page. The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

    Front page displays
    __ Your latest posts

    A static page (select below)

I was looking at this. It says that you can “stick” a post onto the front page.
It looks as if I can have a static front page with a couple of posts on it and then change it.
Can I do that or is my front page always static unless I make it my post page

How can I post recent posts on a static front page?

That’s a contradiction in terms: posts show on dynamic pages, and the blog front can display either your recent posts or a static page.

It says that you can “stick” a post onto the front page.

The option isn’t carefully phrased. Notice that the previous paragraph says “you can mark some posts as Sticky to make them appear above the other posts“. A sticky post shows on top of the other posts on the main posts page; the main posts page isn’t necessarily the front page.

What exactly do you want your homepage to display? your two latest posts only, or your intro message plus the two latest posts?

After reading this I thought I could get two or three recent posts onto an intro page.
Now I’ll just show the intro page

    Thanks for your help

    You’re welcome.
A static page is just like one post: you can’t “get two or three recent posts onto an intro page” – it’s like saying you want two or three recent posts onto a post.
If you want your intro plus a few recent posts, you can set the blog to display your posts, publish the intro as a post instead of a page, and set that post as a sticky (so it will always show on top of the other posts).
