i’ve tried and tried and tried to re-post and continue to get this error now.
i go to pages, edit, add media, click on file url, insert into post.
do you know what i’m doing wrong??????

If you still have the PDF on your computer, did you open it and make sure that it has something in it?
-
-
does it matter if you are posting as a post or to a page? altho i’ve tried it both ways …
-
No, you can post a PDF to a post or to a page.
Try this. Change the name of the file on your computer and upload and insert it again. Also, make sure that the file name contains only letters and numbers, no spaces or extra periods and such, and make sure it has the .pdf extension.

i was so excited when i saw your reply! no spaces!!! i was sure that was it. so i renamed, uploaded, etc. nooooooooooo, it didn’t work. then i double-checked the .pdf extension. it was right. it said .pdf. but it doesn’t work.
next?

Did you CHANGE the name? WP.com hates it when people upload the same file with the same name. Just be sure to change the name and then re-upload.
-
yes. i changed the name from “Snoop with Brett Dennen as it appeared in the Chicago Tribune” to “SnoopingBrettDennen.” it had a .pdf extension. i reuploaded it from my computer. but same error message. i am near tears . . .

I see the PDF just fine when I click on that link. Here is a screen cap of the upper left corner: http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/files/2009/06/pdf.png .
It is an issue somewhere on your end.

well, i’m thrilled that folks who have been looking at this likely have been seeing the pdf. but do you have any advice on what i should do so i can be sure all is cool when i upload these pdfs?

Well, whatever you’re using to include all those Div tags, stop using it. Strip the link absolutely right down to just a href = “http://thesnoopster.wordpress.com/files/2009/06/snoopdennen.pdf”
I have the terrible feeling you’re composing your HTML in Word. That will destroy you. If you must compose it offline, use Notepad or something else that doesn’t have “curly quotes” and such fancy stuff. You just absolutely only want the HTML code and the URL. Everything else is a potential source of problems.

First off, make sure that you have the PDF viewer plugin installed in your browser. Typically when you download Adobe Reader, it will ask if you want to install the viewer into your browser. Also, do you have another browser you can try? What browser are you using?

He means Firefox or Internet Explorer or Safari, the program you’re using to look at the internet.
