  You can choose which “page” always shows as your front page.
  dashboard -> options -> reading

  look at the choices –
  if you choose a static page and place your favoured post on that page then it will always be the page people see first when they come to your site

  btw this will be the same regardless of which theme you choose

  I think we’ve resolved the two issues I brought up. I now understand how to post photos, and I understand the advantages and disadvantages associated with posting an introduction to my blog on a static page.
