POSTING – scheduling – Facebook

  • Unknown's avatar

    With a scheduled post – can you include Facebook linkage posting with the scheduled post?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

    Can you clarify what you want to do when your scheduled post is published – do you want to also post the link to Facebook at the same time?

    If so, you need to set up a Publicize connection to Facebook under Settings -> Sharing. Here’s more information on using Publicize that might be useful:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#facebook-profiles-pages

    I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Thanks – I believe I’ve done all that — and in the post info there’s the publicize area… I press settings and it show a check mark… Does this mean when that scheduled post posts it will automatically put it on my Face Book page? thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, with that box checked it will automatically publish to Facebook when your post is published.

    I hope that clarifies things!

    Hi – yes – it worked… one was scheduled for today.

    But is there a way to remove the paragraph that goes ‘Hey there… catch the RSS feed… etc? – thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes – I just want the large picture as a big square people can read… what I have are pictures with writing on them… birthdays for composers and quotes… right now they can’t read any of it.. I spent hours creating them and they will not have the desired effect. Can this be adjusted? thanks.

    That is a feature of the theme that you’re using: http://motiondemo.wordpress.com/

    Can you clarify what you mean by “big square”?

    Also, since you have the Premium upgrade, you can add this CSS to your CSS stylesheet editor under Appearance -> Customize -> CSS from your dashboard:

    #headerbanner {
    display: none;
    }

    That should hide that text. I hope that helps!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks for your help… Big Square – what I’m trying to say is… the post is a large square picture… you’ll see a picture of, for example, Ludwig van Beethoven and text such as ‘Happy Birthday Beethoven! and fireworks. Or a quote of his. I want this to go up on facebook large and clean… without the minimization and accompanying paragraph saying “Hi There… join the RSS feed… etc” which defeats the purpose of the posting which is to have the quote up there… tag it on FB, have people like it and comment… and press the picture to pop onto the blog. The above CSS customization suggestion I don’t understand… I don;t want to affect the front page of my blog page… this has only to do with a prescheduled post and how it appears on FB… Thanks! Sorry if I have not been clear…

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hmmm… I see that the ‘paragraph in question’ is on the header… perhaps that’s why it appears on my posts to FB? – so that’s where the CSS customization comes in? — if so please tell me a bit more (sorry) about how exactly to do it… when you go to the CSS area from the customization menu… there’s a bunch of written sentences… do you erase all of that? — Just start writing your suggested bit on ‘line one’? — when you mess with it you get all of these red xes which look ‘dangerous’! — thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay – I went ahead and cleared out the CSS area and put in the text you suggested… it did indeed remove the annoying paragraph (its awful) – from my front page… but it still appears in the FB posts! -I sincerely appreciate your time!

    The CSS only hides that text visually in your site – the underlying paragraph text still exists in the code as it is a built-in feature of the theme (see the link to the Motion demo site above where that same text is shown). If you don’t want that text, you would need to choose another theme as we’re unable to modify the theme files in that manner.

    With the image posting on Facebook – it is a limitation that is on Facebook’s end. Linking to a post on Facebook will show a link to your site and a thumbnail image. Since Facebook is controlling that behavior, there’s nothing you can do on WordPress.com to change it.

    I hope that clarifies things!

    Okay – thanks… when surfing for other themes… in the preview none of the widgets and such are visible – will they come along? – or do they have to be redone. If I go so far as to I activate one I can revert to the old one as it was? – I read that there is a function – to continue surfing, but it doesn’t say if it reverts to the exact theme, with all of the additions you created… Lastly (thanks) — the thing I like about the motion theme is the list of post categories on the bar under the title… do they all have this? – -I mostly see ‘Home’, ‘About’ and none of the categories during the live preview – thanks so much for your time.

    I tried another theme – Andrea – it does NOT have this phrase on the front page – but it DOES include it in the FB post. Now I am confused! Does this phrase just accompany every FB post no matter what the theme? Thanks…

  • Unknown's avatar

    This is the phrase
    Hey there! Thanks for dropping by Name That Opus! Take a look around and grab the RSS feed to stay updated. See you around!

    There’s an option to omit the thumbnail… but not this – I don;t want this to accompany my posts… I now tried ‘Piano Black’ theme… which I like, but the phrase goes with it as well. Are there any that do not include this with posts to FB? thanks. Sorry if I am wearing you out. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Does this phrase just accompany every FB post no matter what the theme?

    No, the problem is with Facebook retaining a cache of your website. Since you have posted to Facebook and connected Publicize while you were using the Motion theme, you will need to reset Facebook’s connections and cache. To fix this follow the steps to disconnect and reconnect your Facebook connection here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-facebook

    Secondly, input your site URL here to force Facebook to reset their cache for your site:
    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

    NOTE: you will need to choose your new theme prior to reconnecting and resetting the cache. Otherwise it will pick up that RSS feed text again.

    Also, it appears one of our forum volunteers addressed that header text issue in this thread:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/when-i-post-to-facebook-this-annoying-paragraph-accompanies?replies=2#post-1314664

    If you follow their instructions, that should also remove the text prior to the resetting steps above.

    I hope that clarifies things!

    HI again – thanks for your help. I’ve done everything you suggest – and before did the suggestion about removing it from the motion page. I now am using ‘Piano Black’. I did all the steps you suggested above. However… when I attempted to test by sending a post to FB – the phrase” “Hey there! Thanks for dropping by Name That Opus! Take a look around and grab the RSS feed to stay updated. See you around!”

    Was there – Before – I pressed the go button. ?? Really would like to get rid of it… it isn’t what I would create if I had to make one up. – would rather none at all… thanks :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    Could things be complicated by the fact that I have 2 blogs… the other one is still motion – but I have also done the entire procedure… including putting an empty widget into the header widget area… I appreciate your patience – at least I’ll learn a lot through this process.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Just to try again and be sure… I waited a day and – from the new theme – ‘Piano Black’ – underwent, again, the entire procedure of reconnecting. But still… the phrase is there. Sorry – I know you are busy… but this issue is persistent! – thank you so much!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay – it seems that now that I’ve all these adjustments… it is only when I try OLD posts which I sent to FB before… that the evil phrase raises it’s head… but with new ones… things act as you have suggested. So – sorry for that – I was ‘testing’ with these older posts…. had no way on knowing that would be the case… Though I’m still not happy with the way they turn up on FB… will just have to do everything twice. They go through small with a blank box – or now, with ‘Piano Black’ another paragraph of gobbetly gook… would really prefer a nice big Picture people can read and comment on! I took time to make them look nice and they are unreadable at the deposited smaller size… The idea is to save effort by having them go up simultaneously to FB… but now – for the pictures – they publishing is useless. For a post primarily of words it is okay, with the big W next to it… But I am following advice of convention speakers to unite all this… Thank you for your time… if you have any additional advice… I would appreciate it. If I haven’t completely worn out my welcome!!! All best — Christopher
