Posting to a category

Is it possible to attach a post to a category while posting it, or can that only happen after the post is published?

Hi alexjblue,
When writing your post, on the right-hand side you’ll find a “Categories” box. You can check off the categories you want your post in, or click on “+ Add new category” to create a new one.
If you don’t see this box, you can try to click on “Screen Options” near the top of the page, and make sure the “Categories” checkmark is selected.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. I must be confused. I see the Screen Options in the Dashboard, but not when I’m posting. From which screen do I go to Screen Options to make this happen?

From Dashboard, click on Posts/Add New and then click on Screen Options in the upper right hand corner.
Make sure that Tags, Categories, and anything else you want to see as you are writing your post, is checked.

Gotcha. Well, Categories is already checked, but I don’t see it in the little half-window that opens when I click New Post. I can add tags but not categories with a new post.
Is something wrong? What am I missing?
Can you send me a screen shot of what you see when you click New Post?

Well, here’s something. I’m almost exclusively posting photos, so I click New Post and I get that half window … I don’t usually post through the Dashboard, though maybe I’ll have to do that in order to make this work?

I always post through the Dashboard – there seemed to be some issue with posts not being auto-saved through the “New Post” way, so I haven’t ever tried it.
