posting to “back” pages?
-
I am new to this whole blogging thing. I am using the “Press Row 0.1” template. How do I write a new post and send it DIRECTLY to one of the “back’ pages on my blogsite? Even when I click on the desired page before I write the post, it still ends up on my “home” page instead.

The newest posts show up first and the ‘back pages’ are the older posts. If you change the “timestamp” in creating a new post or editing a post on the right side to an older date, it will show up on the “back pages”.

Let me make sure that I am clear on this:
Take a look at my blog : http://indyandy.wordpress.com
The “History Page” and the “Picture Page” will never have any new posts on them because each new post will essentially become it’s own “page” as it is moved off of the “Home” page by newer posts?
-
No, that’s not quite it: they’ll never have any new posts on them because they are Pages, not Posts at all. Posts are what you normally see in a blog, scrolling down from most recent to least. When you go to the Write page, you have a tab to choose whether you write a Page or a Post.
All you can do to change the contents of Pages is edit and/or delete the page. Also, pages do not count AT ALL towards your stats. They simply are not counted, because they’re “extras” rather than the blog itself, which is the posts.

Okay – I think that I understand now.
I guess that I just misunderstoond the purpose of pages. I thought that I could use them to keep different subjects that I might do multiple posts on “separated” from each other.
Thanks.

No, but that’s what you use categories for. If you put the category widget in your sidebar, people can click on whatever category they want to read, and all the posts tagged with that category will be grouped together.

So how do I add a category? I’ve tried “add category” on the manage page & it tells me that I don’t have permission to do that. I’ve also tried the “category” side bar on the new post screen, but nothing ever happens.

If you are the blog administrator and not just an author on someone else’s blog, you should be able to add categories on the manage page. Please send feedback to staff explaining the error you get (not having permission), and they should be able to take care of it for you.
