Posting to different pages?

I’m new to WordPress and I’m just finding my way around. Is it possible to post different posts to different pages? For example, the site I’m trying to make should have a ‘general’ posts page, and if possible a ‘specific topic’ posts page. Then I can separate the two so if anyone wants to see only the page and information on the specific post, they can go to that page and not have to scroll through any of the ‘general’ posts that might be on the other page. Right now it seems all posts go to one page and there’s no way to post to any page but that one page.
I’ve read about tags and categories and that seems to be the way I need to go, but I don’t understand exactly what I need to do, or even if the result will be separate posts, the way I hope, or if it will basically just be a way for viewers to search.

Thank you; I had found and read that previously, and it’s what prompted me to post the question here. If I understand correctly, what this is saying is the only way to distinguish between posts is to place the posts into individual categories; and then the categories will be individually accessible only if the theme will support this. So basically, there’s no way to separate two different types of posts as I hoped. Is this correct or am I missing something?
Is there any other way to distinguish between different types of posts, and have each type separately accessible to viewers?

Yes, the only way to distinguish between posts is to file them under different categories.
No, categories are individually accessible in all themes via the Categories widget in your sidebar. The “only if the theme will support this” part applies to creating category tabs in the top nav menu.
But all your latest posts will show up on the blog front regardless of category – unless you set a static page as your front.
