Posting to Home Page
-
Hello, I’m trying to post to the Home Page on my blog, but it’s not working. I don’t want to add the post as another menu item, nor do I want it as a “sub-item”. I just want to post it and it be what someone sees when they go to look at my blog. Help, please!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Publish a post https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ and unless you changed the blog structure and made your front page a static front page it will appear on your front page.
You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) A static front page and posts on a different page.By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors who will not be happy to have to click through an About page every time they visit your blog as they come to read your most recently published content. Creating that situation can make some visitors annoyed – so annoyed that they stop following your blog.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for all published posts (not pages) to display on in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.
To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change for each page and click “save changes”.
A static page (select below)
Front page:
Posts page:The guide is here http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

I changed it from a static page to the recent posts, but it’s still not showing up. My pages are posting, but I don’t see them anywhere.

To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ Then use the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
Post the URL of the page you created for posts to appear on please?

I’ve figured it out, thank you so much! I have one more thing.. The “insert continue reading” tag doesn’t work. Can you help me?
-
The setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.
If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the ext does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.
Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of only SOME active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410
For other ways to splitting content in posts see > https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/

http://looseleafleader.com/home-3/ Here’s the URL for the page titled “Home”. Once I made it a static page, everything went to it, even my Contact and About Me information was posted!

I tagged this read for Staff to help you understand how your theme is designed to operate as described here https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/eventbrite-venue/ and to assist you to achieve your goal.

Alright, thank you so much! I see that I have a theme geared more towards events, do you recommend any for blogging only?

Hi LooseLeafLeader,
I’ve taken a look at your site and see you still have a static home page currently set to your “Home” page. To have your blog posts show on your home page you’ll want to select “Your Latest Posts” from Customizer > Static Front Page.
Once you’ve done that we can take a look at the read more tag. The tag will only work where you have more than one posts on a page (such as a blog page or archive page, not on a static home page)
With regards to your theme. You may browse themes from the following link:
https://wordpress.com/themes/Hint, you may wish to use the “More” filter at the top to find the perfect theme for you.
-
I don’t see the “more” tag that you’re talking about. I changed it to “my latest post” but when I click on the “Home” tab, it’s still empty and none of my stories show up. When someone clicks on the “Continue Reading” there’s no way to get back to the “Home” page where all the stories are. Which is why I want the “Home” tab to be the home page and what people see when they come to my site.

Hi there,
I now see that all of your blog posts do show up on your home page at, http://looseleafleader.com/
The last step to make a link on the menu go to that pages is to create a custom link in the menu editor.
To do this follow these steps:1) Visit the menu editor at https://wordpress.com/menus
2) Make sure “primary menu” is selected on the left and “Top Menu” is select on the right
3) Click the pencil/edit icon to edit your “Home” menu item
4) Select “Link” as the item type
5) Enter http://looseleafleader.com/
6) Save the menuHere is our full guide:

Thank you! I have one more question.. if I switch from my current theme to one that I previously purchased, Zuki, will everything that I’ve done transfer over or will I have to basically start over?
-
Hi there,
Your content (all your posts, pages, and images) will all remain regardless of the theme you use. However, theme specific settings, such as widgets, and menus may need to be added back or recreated as each theme has unique widget/menu areas.
