Posting To Separate Pages
-
I just created my blog today and I have had nothing but problems this whole time, and honestly it’s getting on my last nerve. I’m considering deleting the entire thing soon. I can’t get in contact with any real people for support on this issue (I had hoped there would be some sort of support chat). I made my blog with a home page and then five sub-topic pages. The five sub-topics are as follows: books; cooking & recipes; movies; television shows; video games. I tried posting to a specific category (cooking & recipes, not that it matters) but it wouldn’t work. Not only that, but when I made the post, it says it’s on there, but I can’t find it at all! It’s like the site just swallowed it up. I can go in through the blog posts section and edit and even delete the post, but I can’t view it any other way, which means nobody else can see it at all. What on earth is going on? I want to be able to post into each specific category as I please and I CERTAINLY want people to be able to see my posts in the first place!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Relax. This issue is the result of a common misinterpretation. We’ll set you back on course. Key support pages that you should read in order to better understand what you are trying to do:
- Pages — https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
- (Post) Categories — https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories
- Custom Menus — https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
- Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) — https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
Static pages are not categories, and therefore you can not assign a post to a page as if it were a category. A category archives page is generated automatically when you assign one or more posts to a category. Links to category archives pages may be used in a Custom Menu to immediately assign any new post to various categories.
Not only that, but when I made the post, it says it’s on there, but I can’t find it at all! It’s like the site just swallowed it up.
A look at the addresses which should display your posts published in 2015 and 2014 (yearly post archives pages) indicates that none were published. This likely indicates that you’ve been latest victim of the new “improved posting experience,” which has amongst its many problems a propensity for causing draft and published posts to disappear without a trace. I suggest you use only the classic post editor. You may find the following page by member dandelion salad instructive and helpful: How To Use the Classic Editor on wordpress.com Blogs and Never See the Beep, Beep, Boop Editor Again!
Also, you’ve assigned a static front page at Settings > Reading. When you did that you should have assigned another page to display your posts, in accordance with the instructions on the Front Page support page. Have you done that?

Okay. So if I’m understanding this right, instead of having all those separate pages, I should have set a list of categories available on the home page that would lead to the individual sections I’d like to have?

…I should have set a list of categories available on the home page…
I’m not sure what you mean by this. Categories are assigned to posts. You may link to category archives pages in a menu that appears on the homepage, and every static page.
