That’s because you’ve set the blog front to display a static page without also setting another page for your posts. You need to create a blank page in Pages > Add New, title it Posts or whatever you see fit, and select that page as your posts page in Settings > Reading. Or simply set the blog front to display your latest posts.
In both cases you also need to add some widgets such as the Categories widget and the Archives widget. -

timmyconway,
Please do not hijack threads. Increasing traffic has nothing to do with the original poster’s static front page. Please start a new thread. -

okay so now my page keeps saying oops cannot be found?! although i’m making some random posts and they are showing up in the categories… how can i make them also appear and stay on my home page?

By default your front page displays all your posts and you have not published any posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of your blog appeared because you deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
I recommend using the step by step tutorial prepared by Staff for new bloggers here. It’s linked to on the bottom of your Admin page http://learn.wordpress.com

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page
Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.
If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
