Posts and Pages
-
Hi there –
I am trying to set up a blog that will be reviews of various media (tv, movies, music, podcasts, etc.). I want the front page to display my most recent posts but then I want a menu that shows each category of media in which posts will be dropped. For example, if I review a film today, I want it to post to the front page so that it is recent, but if someone found my site and they clicked on the ‘movies’ button, that post would also appear there.
I can’t find the answer to this online. Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I want the front page to display my most recent posts
Check.
but then I want a menu that shows each category of media in which posts will be dropped.
This can only be done with a Custom Menu. Are you displaying a custom menu in the one of the header menu areas (top and bottom) provided by the Rowling theme?
For example, if I review a film today, I want it to post to the front page so that it is recent, but if someone found my site and they clicked on the ‘movies’ button, that post would also appear there.
That is most easily accomplished by adding Category Pages to a custom menu. Add categories to the posts that will correspond to the categories to appear in the custom menu.
A category page is automatically created when a category is add to at least one post. A specific category page grows each time you publish a new post with that category assigned to it, or assign that category to an old post. See the Add menu items section of the Custom Menus support page. You might also check out the relevant forum topics under the “post in pages” tag. See, for example, the following topics: POST TO PAGES ISSUES, Add page with ability to include content, or How to post in pages?
