Posts don't come up in topic search

  Hi.

  I’ve had this issue before and thought it was resolved, but then I started checking a week or so ago, and find that it’s still happening.

  My posts do come up for most of the categories and tags I assign them but there are a couple that never seem to work, and they’re tags that I think are important. For example, I write often about medieval art and architecture but my posts don’t come up under ‘medieval.’ This is just one the posts that doesn’t come up though tagged medieval: http://owlinthepulpit.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/archangel/

  I’ve looked at the support page on this issue, and none of the reasons given there apply in this situation. So I don’t know what the issue is. When I do a ‘medieval’ topic search, stuff often comes up that isn’t even really about medieval topics, which makes the fact that my posts don’t come up just a little more frustrating.

  Is there something else I’m doing wrong? Is there anything I can do?

  It seems like such a silly thing to complain about, I know, but my blog is small and I feel like I might be missing out on attracting readers if my posts don’t come up under pertinent searches.

  Hi there,

  The issue with the medieval tag on your blog is actually caused by the tag’s slug. The slug is what appears in the URL when you view the tag archives page. This can be different from the tag’s name. For example, if you view your medieval tag archive, you will see that the slug is actually “medieval-2”:

  http://owlinthepulpit.wordpress.com/tag/medieval-2/

  This means that your posts tagged with “medieval” are actually appearing in the Topics section for “medieval-2” here:

  http://wordpress.com/#!/read/topic/medieval-2/

  You can view and edit your tags by going to Posts > Tags in your dashboard. The left column is the name, and the right column is the slug. The slug is created automatically when you edit the tag’s name, so you may want to try editing and resaving the medieval tag to see if that fixes the slug.

  Thank you so much! I bet that’s what’s happening with the other tag that’s not coming up either. I’ll edit the slugs right away.

  I edited the tags (it turned out that there were several with -2 at the end) and it looks like it’s working.

  I had some trouble with a category as well, ‘bestiary;’ my last three posts in that category hadn’t been coming up. I checked the slug and it was normal, though. I got those posts to come up by removing that category, updating, adding it again, and then updating.
