Posts for one page only

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d like to link post content to a particular page. In other words, the posts should be on that page only, whereas other posts are on another page. All can be listed, I don’t care, but the entire post content for the particular page I want to enable should be read only from that page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Ok, I think I understand what you’re asking, but correct me if I misunderstood. Here is one way you can accomplish that:

    1. Use categories or tags to separate the different pages where you want your content. For example, if you want your blog to cover Health, Cooking, and Exercise. You categorize all your posts with any of those three categories.
    2. When you create the first post for “Cooking” a page will be made for the “Cooking” category.
    3. You can access that page by clicking on the category below the post.
    4. You can then place the URL for that page in a custom menu and have that category as a page on your site.

Not sure if that’s what you are looking for. I you have any questions about that or need further explanation of what I’m describing let me know.

    Kind regards,
    Jason

Thanks, Jason, It solved one problem. However, since I already created separate pages, what I seem to have is a page with the latest post to that category AND the page which I previously created. The usefulness of the previously created page is that I can write something on it ABOUT the category an d then have posts related to that category appear on a side menu using a widget.

What I want is to have the posts relate to that category appear on the side as well as a list of comments on those posts. NOT posts and comments relating to other categories and pages.

To read a post, follow a discussion on a particular category, the reader would need to click on the page name on the navigation bar on any page. The page/category is “Darton & the Dao”

    Thanks,

    B.

Ah! I know exactly what you want to do! I have a personal website that works exactly like that, but I built it myself. One thought that comes to mind off the top of my head would be to make sticky posts one for each category and see if that works. You can make a post sticky by going into the quick edit for the post and checking the box to make it sticky on the right at the bottom.

Not sure if that would work or not, but might be worth a try.

The only other thought would be to try to find a theme that has that capability. That’s a feature that is definitely possible the way the WordPress codex is laid out.

    Sorry I couldn’t help more.

    Kind regards,
    Jason

    Well, I found two workarounds:

    1) one a modification of the suggestion to link via catgories, but NOT to do the final step. I just listed the page as parent and the category as child and posted that on the page in question, then I eliminated the list of posts from the page.

2)set up a second blog with only one page. (I used a different template), then link via the Navigation bar, directly to that “page” (now separate blog.)

Both are absurdly clunky but the second, to the reader, seems seamless. For the person behind the screen, its still a pain, but I hope that once set up, it won’t be.

    THANKS!
